UncleBo, you are absolutely right about the highways. I turned off I-20 about 80 or 100 miles short of Dallas and had near deserted two lane roads for a few hours. Got spoiled. Beautiful views and peaceful, easy travel. Hit a toll highway north of Austin with an 80 mph speed limit and whoa!
Should you ever get back on that section of I-20, you'll find those last 80-100 miles east of Dallas to be tough. I recommend avoiding them at all costs. If you can't, be very aware of the 90-100 mph traffic in the left lane...the craziness seems to come out in folks the closer they get to Big D.

By the way, my favorite BBQ spot in Fort Worth sells t-shirts with the following slogan:
"Life's too short to live in Dallas!"

It's the same way South of Dallas on I-45, in ANY lane. `If you ain't running 100 MPH, you're a roadblock.
About 1/2 way to Dallas from Houston, those electronic "Your Speed Is" signs stopped showing speed and started flashing SLOW DOWN, SLOW DOWN, SLOW DOWN... Hilarious IMO and kinda fun when riding a Road Rocket.

Yep, welcome to the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I almost refuse to go there. Sometimes it just can't be avoided. It is pure Looney Tunes there. And remember, road-ragers there will have a gun 80% of the time. So be very very careful.
