How to start riding motorcycle Via Learners permit??

So I've wanted to have a motorcycle for a while but I am very confused as to how I begin. I currently have a Learners permit and I can legally drive cars as long as there's a 21yr licensed driver with me. What I'm confused about is does my current permit include motorcycles as well as cars and how would that work if I don't have anyone in my family thats a licensed (or endorsed) motorcycle rider. If I'm on my bike with the permit does the licensed person have to be on a bike also or can they be driving a car during the 9 months? As you can tell I'm extremely new to the motorcycle scene so don't judge me lol.

Your current car permit doesn't include motorcycles that's a separate permit. Once you get a motorcycle permit you have to have a licensed motorcycle rider with you either on another bike or follow you in a car.

Well this doesn't apply in Georgia. And it's always nice to see a ridiculous off the wall law that doesn't apply in Georgia. This sounds like something that varies from state to state. In Georgia once you have your MC permit, which I believe can only be obtained after you get your full fledged car license (that part I may be wrong on). The only restriction with the MC permit is you can't ride after dark.
@Pretty_Ok You will have to check with your local DMV, or what ever the equivalent to that is where you are at.

You could be right. This is how it is in Ny at least that's how it was when I got my motorcycle license.

Well I've never heard of a law requiring you have someone ride with you or as a passenger. Doesn't mean there isn't one, I just never heard of one. Been too many years since I got one so it's not something I've stay up to date on. I was basically handed mine anyway. Even getting mine transferred to Texas I was almost just handed it as I went to the DPS office and when asked where I came from, I told them and got ask, you rode all the way from there in December? Guess you pass. I said it wasn't that bad. Only a couple passes had snow and ice. This having a passenger with a new rider sure seems dangerous to me or I read that wrong. Anyway, I think you best bet is the just go to where they do license testing a talk to them face to face. It's much better than phoning or texting or emailing. Each state is different and they are changing all the time. Get the latest from the source. We might say something that has already changed so don't get stuck like that.

In NY you were not supposed to have a passenger with a licence yes I agree that would be dangerous you were supposed to be followed by a licensed rider on another bike or in a car. I'm not sure if it's still that way or not. Like you guys are saying it could very well vary from State to State.

The vast majority of traffic laws are state-by-state. The federal government can regulate only interstate (from one state to another). Anybody remember the "mandatory" 55 mph speed limit back in the '70s? Even that was set by each state; the federal government did some major arm twisting by withholding highway funds from states that didn't comply, but in reality each state was still free to set speed limits to whatever they chose.

Read up on how this republic of ours works, it's really pretty interesting.

Depending on the state the requirements are different. About the only thing all the states have in common is the fact that you have to have a different endorsement for riding than driving. Check with your state's motor vehicle division.

Also most states offer a motorcycle safety course, it also has various names depending on the states. Most call it something like Beginning Rider's Course.

Motorcycles’s are Probably not include the same learners licence as your car permit.
It’s definitely not included here, unless you apply for a motorcycle learners license at the same time. You have to take a motorcycle specific multiple guess exam.

You can get both here, if you take both the car and MC multiple guess exam.

I don’t know for where you live. In Canada each province has its own regulations for driving licenses. So it will depend on where you live.

One of the restrictions here, for a MC learner.
Includes an option of riding with a fully licensed MC rider until you pass the basic skills test at the DVLC. This would be a rider on another bike. I think since you are not allowed a passenger.

After you pass the basic skills test this restriction is removed.
Still restrictions for day time and no passenger until you pass a road test for full MC lisence.

Here you would still have to do 2 road tests 1 for cars and 2nd for MC. Or the other way round.

I don’t know but it’s probably a good bet. If you look up the vehicle licence office on line where you live. They will tell you what you need.
And will have a guide or pamphlet for what you need to know to pass the exam and probably have practice test as well.
Then when you have read the stuff you go pay the fee take the test and they add the MC learner to your lisence
