Has anyone repaired or replaced the Starter Button Module in the OEM Switch Assembly Handlebar RIght Hand with an aftermarket starter/kill/light switch? Even though Suzuki uses different part numbers for the VS1400 assembly through the years, it has always appeared the same on my ‘89, ‘95 and ’07 VS1400s

My 2007 VS1400 S83 would not do anything but turn on the lights when I turned on the ignition key and pressed the starter button. After checking the battery voltage, testing the starter solenoid relay, the kill switch, the clutch safety module and the kick stand safety button, we discovered the faulty part was the Starter Button module. There are four wires connected to it (see pic) and when we directly connected the orange/white wire to the white/black wire, the bike started immediately.

The OEM Starter Button Module is not sold separately so you must buy the entire OEM Switch Assembly Handlebar RH, 38200-38BK0 $168.95 or purchase an aftermarket right handlebar switch assembly for 1” handlebars. However, I could only find switch assemblies for 7/8”.

This is what the Starter Module within the 2007 Boulevard S83 Switch Assembly RIght Handlebar looks like.

We took it apart very carefully following the guidance at http://www.intruders-alert.com/viewtopic.php?t=150

When we got inside the module the corrosion that prevented a clean connection was evident in the top two surfaces (pic below) so we cleaned them to fully expose the copper surface. Now it works fine.

Problem Solved!
