Honda CB360 generator output

Gentlemen, I've got a Honda CB360 that's in pieces. I'm painting the frame now, and I'll be installing the wiring next. Can anybody tell me what kind of energy output I can expect from my generator (alternator, whatever you call it on a bike)?

I need to know so I can decide what kind of head lights I should get. This bike isn't pretty enough for a restoration, so I will be retrofitting other lights and I want maximum performance. Besides, there are a million perfectly restored CBs out there. This one's a street fighter.

So, if anybody can tell me what kind of juice I have to work with, I would appreciate it.

Hello Cale,

I am in the same boat you were. I have a Honda 360 engine that I want to put into a buggy. However, all I have iis a box of parts and no idea on how the electrics goes together. Do you have any wiring diagrams by any chance?

Thankyou,
Paul
Hey Paul.

I'd be glad to give you the wiring diagram I have. I'm not sure what year model repair manual it came out of, but my guess is that all the CBs were the same, or at least similar enough to get your buggy running.

The diagram is two pages of jpeg scans. You can print them out and tape them together like I did.

Just give me an email address and I will send you those jpegs right away.

Good luck with your project.

Thankyou very much!

Hello Cale,

I am sure the 2 pics will be nough to sort me out.

My address is royans(at)aapt.net.au

Thankyou very much!

i have a 360 that is 90% complete, to include extra spare parts, (lights, seats, tanks, wheels and tires) give a shout i am sure we can agree on a price.
type in cb350 manual in the search. There's some good manuals on this forum. It's a 350-400 twin manual that's 90 some mb, and it has all the wiring diagrams.
Hello Gnash,

Thanks, I do need one of these. Do you think this one would do the job?
hondarectifiers dot com
(UNIVERSAL FIT RECTIFIER
$12.95)

Also, the wiring diagrams I have been supplied with talk about a "Relay/Starter motor" with 4 wires coming out of it. The only wire I can see coming out of the starter motor is the high tension one which I assume connects straight to the battery?

Do you also know what sort of voltage regulator I need? I think I am also missing this part.

Thankyou
The stock regulator should work. I've seen them on ebay.
I would just get a cl360 wiring harness. I seen one on ebay today. It had the stock rectifier on it and regulator. There's a stator and rectifier package for the cl360 at www.denniskirk.com It runs about $215, but it's a NEW stator and higher output system.

That rectifier that I showed you is a higher output than stock. It should help power all the lights and keep your battery charged better. At least that's what it claims.

They are talking about the starter relay/solenoid switch.

Hes a good guy to do business with. He also has a website at : www.oregonmotorcycleparts.com
the CB350 and CB360 had 110 watt alternators. they are permanent magnet type, so the output is limited to the alternator capacity. A higher rated regulator will not change anything, but perhaps be more durable.

I put a 55 watt halogen H4 buld on my CB360 (replaced the 37 watt OEM). I had to change the lense and all to do this. The 55 watt was using the entire free capacity of the alternator and then a little more. I ended up taking it off.

There are 35 watt Halogen H4 (Search for h4 scooter lamps). You will need the whole lense, as the present light is about 6 inches Diam. You can't get a 6 inch housing, you need to get 5 1/4 or 7 inch. Then you can get a replacement lense that fits.

The laternators on these bikes is just enough to keep the lights glowing and the battery barely charged. They are great bikes, and with reasonable care, very reliable, but forget about getting a high output alternator (rotor or stator).
Hello,

I have managed to get hold of the electrical components I need to get my CB 360 Engine running.
I can follow most of the wiring diagram but a bit lost when it comes to the starter solenoid.

The solenoid has;
2 "post" type connections (6mm diam threaded copper studs - unmarked), a black wire and a yellow/red wire.

Can anyone advise me where these wires go to please?

Thankyou

Paul

The black wire should be ground. The yellow/red wire should be the one coming from the starter button on the handle bars and the post should be for the heavy duty wire to the starter and from the battery. Hope this helps.

Actually, the black wire goes to the voltage regulator. Th yellow/red wire goes to the starter switch. The green wire from the switch goes to ground. All green wires on the CBs and CLs are ground.
