I have a 97 Yamaha virago 750. I have run into a situation my bike I can start in prime move it to run and will run fine . Cant start it in run position every time I have to start it in prime no matter how long it sat not sure why any ideas ? I'm thinking maby a vacuume leake but not sure any and all ideas would be great thanks

After it starts, can you move the lever to run and have everything work fine?

It seems to be working as intended. The prime position allows fuel to freely flow from the carb without vacuum in order to have enough fuel to start the motorcycle before it is running. Vacuum is generated on the intake stroke once the engine is running. Once started, switch it to run and enjoy the ride.

Yeah but last season I never had to put it in prime every start....

How long is it sitting before restarting?
If only a few hours it should work but if it's sitting for any length of time the fuel may evaporate and you will need to set to prime as it was intended.

It seems I have to even after sitting 5 mins just don't want to do harm before I can get it into the shop

Could fuel be leaking out of the carburetors while the bike sits for a few minuets?

Finding any fuel on top of the engine or under the bike?

check your oil and make sure the is no gas in it if the level is high or it smells like fuel don't try to start it before it gets service either by you or a shop!
