I suppose it breaks down into two distinct camps: Looking good before the slide or looking good after it.

Personally, I place very little value in what people think of my appearance.

Darn good thing, considering what I see in the mirror.

I bought motocross boots for riding on my KLR to help prevent a broken ankle. I started to go for a ride and couldn't get my size 16 boot under the shifter. Had to go in hiking boots instead. Maybe I need a heal toe shifter on the KLR? ha Went on an organized ride and dropped the bike crash bar on my ankle, the padding in the hiking boot prevented major damage, but the correct boots seems to me would have prevented any pain there.
Obviously Size 16 boots are a problem. I'd suggest changing to size 11, but you are not likely to take that advice. Even my 12s are clearly larger than what my Japanese Suzuki is designed for. I'm looking around at extended levers or movement I can make to the relative positions of foot-pegs, shifter and rear brake lever. For some reason I don't notice this on my German BMWs.
