My motorcycle will power up when you plug in the batter to the relay yet key is in off position. I replace the whole ignition switch with OEM and still have same problem?? what can be the problem

Batter is short, needs a Y. Kill switch in off position. First problem needs !, second problem needs ?
Best to replace whole ignition switch, not half of it.
Mods will ask for intro. Others will ask for details, like what kind of bike. Make model vintage.
A few details might help. I am thinking a blue CL350, 1972. UK
