I purchased a 1983 GR650 D the other day, that needs some attention. The fellow I got it from said that it would not start and thought it might be the starter clutch. Also needs tires, starter solenoid, signals and who knows what.
Took the primary off and did a live check on the starter. had to cross the contacts on the solenoid to get it to turn over. Looks like the clutch on the pinion starter assembly is sticking and will not engage. Took it out and sure enough the inner gear is rubbing on the inner sleeve causing it to jam in the idle position. Spent the last 3 days looking for a starter pinion assembly and trust me there are not many out there. Came across one on E-bay that is original parts brand new for $82.00. Now need to fine a primary gasket.
