Wiring and hoses can be eaten (chewed on) when bikes are stored outside by field mice or squirrels (they're everywhere). Also check the air breather box, they like to build nests in there. You said besides the obvious, check throttle, clutch & brake cables, sitting in the elements for over a year can cause corrosion causing them to not function. Also check brakes, they can be frozen too. Good luck.
