I was wondering if anyone could offer any suggestions for my first bike. My main concern is finding something that I could ride comfortably, considering my 30'' inseam. I will mostly use the bike for my daily commute, 15 highway miles. I live out in the country, so I will be doing no city driving—just highway with occasional country, dirt roads. I don't plan on doing anything off-road, but still want something that can handle rough sections of dirt roads. I could spend 4 grand—or maybe even 5—but less would be better. With this in mind I was leaning towards a dual-sport, but I'm open to other options. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

There are a lot of options, enough where you can find the style you are interested in.

For a dual-sport, I would recommend something in the 400-650 range for the highway commute. The 30 inch inseam might be a little close, but try sitting on them to see if you can plant your feet comfortably.

Most motorcycles can handle unpaved roads, as long as the roads are reasonably maintained, so you really aren't limited too much there.

It kinda depends on what you mean by highway. My 250cc bike, a Suzuki TU250x, does anything under 70MPH well and it'll hum along at 75MPH, but doesn't pass well at those speeds. If you're doing mostly 60MPH, you could do a 250/300cc bike, but if you want to go 75MPH, you'll probably want something bigger.

I can recommend a Suzuki TU250X. You may want to change out the front cog to make the gearing a little taller for country roads. Great easy to ride bike. And, makes a fantastic Cafe Racer Conversion. That's what I did with mine. Still fun to ride.

I have to agree with Dodsfall.A single or twin in the 400 to 650cc range will be plenty of power for the highways you are likely to be using. Almost any bike can be controlled on a typical dirt road if it is well maintained. I ride my 850 pound Vision 500 feet up my dirt driveway with no issues but a lighter bike would be easier to handle on that stuff.
