i wonder why the previous owner said it needs new heads.
you say it runs ... does it run WELL ? I.E. idles well without the choke once it's had a chance to warm up, responds smoothly to the throttle. if not, it will need a carb cleaning.

Once the choke is off it will idle rough for a minute or 2 then will normally die out it does respond decent to the throttle however its not a rocket but it dosnt trip over itself

Welcome! And welcome to the world of old bikes!

Congrats on getting it started. Get yourself a repair manual for the bike and give it a good tune up, valve clearance, etc. Make sure the service is up to date and then see how it goes.

Any oil leaks or smoke from the exhaust? 0

What cmonSTART said...give it a good tune up and go through the bike, check the brakes, cables, dumb stuff like making sure the petcock doesn't leak and whatnot. I would also run some Seafoam through a few tanks of gas just because.
