Few questions.

Hi I am new to motorcycles and I have a few questions.

1) I live in PA and want to know what I need to do to leagally ride a bike. Do I need a motorcycle license or just a permit? My friend told me a permit lets me ride around by myself, a license lets me carry me and another person, is that true?

2) Where do I get this license/permit?

3) What would be a good started bike for someone who knows absolutely nothing about bikes? I would like a ninja, one that will not have many mechanical problems that i'm putting money into.

I really don't know much about motorcycles but I do like them and would like to start riding in a few months. Any other information on this would be great and appreciated.

-Thanks

In most states a permit will allow you to ride yourself around. In others you have to have a licensed rider within so far of you. The best thing to do is go to the drivers license office and get a learners handbook and start reading.

And I am no pro on bike, most of all sport bikes. But a Ninja just don't seem like a starter bike to me. But then admittedly I do not know.

Hammer
1. You just need a permit but with a permit you can't ride after dark or carry passengers. I have heard you need a licenced rider with you but I don't know for sure. It's been awhile for me.

2. The Drivers Licence Centers can hook you up with a permit if you already have a drivers licence for PA.

3. A good starter bike in the "ninja" style are the Kawasaki Ninja 250/500/ EX500 and the Suzuki GS500. All those bikes are fairly tough, easy to ride for a newbie and can be bought real cheap used.

Take the MSF course. I think it's free in PA and they will teach you how to ride. Any dealer should be able to tell you how to get ahold of a local one.
All right thanks you guys I appreciate it. I'll post more and more as I get closer and closer to getting a bike.
Got another question, I was looking at the gs 500, how fast can that get up to?
hey

i think your looking at a top speed of about 105 mph... im no expert tho so i may well be wrong

It's slightly slower than the Ninja 500 so I would guess around 115 to 120. Fast enough to kill ya that's for certain.
Well I'm not gonna be going so fast so quick lol. I still gotta learn to ride.
