Most of my riding is in the daytime so I just use my headlight turned to high beam which is noticed by all oncoming traffic and there is neither a need for anything else to be noticed, nor any additional cost. I also have an LED headlight which puts out quite a bright beam even in the daytime. Plus, I don't worry about any laws when I travel.
