I am currently riding a 2018 Yamaha MT07 with Dunlop Q3+ size 180/55/17 rear and 120/70/17 front. I ride both track and street and use 33F/36R psi for street and 30F/30R psi for track. I am running the correct tire pressure per manufactures recommendation. The last three sets of tires I've owned have had a tear right through the middle of the rear tire. It's always only one tear and the set I have right now has a tear and the tires where just installed 5 days ago. What could be causing this tear? I've attached pictures of my previous two sets of rear tires.

Odd pattern on the first photo. The second photo the mark appears to be pretty superficial to me, but it may just not be coming through in the picture, or it may be I'm nearly as blind as a bat! :cool:

What's the dealer say?

I'm not familiar with that tire but any soft compound tire will leave rubber behind. That's just how you are able to corner to the max. I don't care how much they claim you can use them on track and street. If you are going to use them on the track then you'll be leaving rubber behind. So you might be finding the flaw in their compound. If I was doing what you are I'd go to the expense of two separate sets of wheels and tires. One for street and one for track. I honestly don't think you can have a tire that does both and maybe you are proving just that.

I haven't used Dunlop tires in many years and never the Q3+, but they are a very popular tire for aggressive street riders and those riders that both street and track ride. Haven't read anything like this before. You have most likely been asking other riders, can you explain what they may had said about it? It's difficult to tell from one straight on photo. Can you post a photo of the tear in the current tire so we can compare it to the previous two? The first tear looks different than the second, how does the third compare? You say 5 days, but how many miles and how much was track and how much was street? How many miles did you get out of the previous two before you changed them out and were they used up when you switched? With the previous two tire tears, did putting on miles after the tear occurred wear it off?

I'm interested in how you determined the pressures you listed are "per manufactures recommendation"? Is this listed somewhere and if so can you provide a link, I would be very interested in reading that? Or, perhaps you are going by the word of a Dunlop Tire Specialist representative that was track side? How much do you weigh with gear? Seems like the track would be more like cold 32-33F/30R and the street would be like cold 39F/36-37R, the only thing I have read would be something like cold 42F/42R for street, but there is no way for me to guess that not knowing you weight, style of riding, and seeing the side walls. Can you post a photo of the tire side walls at the end of a track day and at the beginning of a track day when you have some street miles on it before the first track session, just for a comparison? I'm not in any way questioning your tire pressure settings. If they work for you great. I am just really interested in the "per manufactures recommendation" part.
