Do Dirt Riders Have Longer Chins?

Wondering why off-road helmets have long, pointed chins. Just curious. Maybe there's a function or maybe a styling thing like a beak on an "adventure" bike. Any ideas?

It is mostly a styling issue. But also it provides more room to allow for goggles to go on /off. Most full face street helmets are slightly shorter and more rounded to allow for a curved shield to seal against the surface of the helmet.
I always thought it opened up and extended to ensure that if there is another bike in front of you, you are certain to actually eat his dust ;)

Oh, without a doubt, it works great for that!

Now I am too wondering if it has a function.

I've always thought that maybe it was more impact, which the helmet took before your face? When turning my head on the freeway, it's not exactly helpful. Way more side drag.
