Well, they lay in oil all the time anyways so I don't see where it will hurt unless you have a dry clutch. Your best bet is to follow the manufacturers recomendations. If they say to soak it in oil overnight that's what I would do.

If you're killing clutches that fast I would look at other things that may be wrong. What type of oil are you using for one. Make sure it's for motorcycles using a wet clutch, I assume you have a wet clutch. Read this page about oil. http://www.motorcycleanchor.com/motorcycle/how_to/mc_oil.html . The wrong oil can ruin a clutch in short order. Check out the metal plates, they shouldn't have any blue marks on them from overheating. They should be within spec thickness wise and flat. They may be bad. Replace the clutch springs, they are fairly cheap and ones that are weak will make a clutch slip. Check the pressure plate for flatness using a straight edge or an indicator if you have one. Also the outer clutch (the outer part that the crankshaft drives) that the plates go into, check it for wear on the fingers. Check the rotor (the part in the center the plates drive that goes to the transmission) for wear.
