Was lookin at this, looks really handy, but really expensive. Are there any other out there that don't cost as much?

this of course would work just as well for what I need it for, for a third of the price, but the first one is more versatile with the hex bit adapter on it.

Otherwise, how hard do you s'pose it would be to just get those 'replacement gears', and rig them up to create your own 90 degree gear screwdriver, for even cheaper than the specific pilot screw adjuster tool?

carb tools

carb tools are specialized tools that are made to do the job they are for doing. Man this thread is a tough one... Sure, there are cheap ones, but who wants to chance messing up their carbs????
pilot screws are put in with a pilot screw driver... They are like a regular thin flat head screw driver with a tit in the center of the blade to help line it up.

those cheap brass pilots are not user freindly, and your manufacturer will have the proper tool. trust your dealer, not your feeler....
