I have a 1986 honda shadow 1100. Recently it started leaking gas from the dump tube from the vacuum chambers. I removed the carbs and checked float operation (seemed to be seating properly), removed and cleaned the jets, checked operation of air cutoff valve. Re-installed carbs, started the motorcycle and found that it still had the same problem. Any suggestions out there?

The float valve is leaking or the float is not set properly. You should replace the valve and seat as a pair if that is the problem.

In addition to that some of them, (I don't remember exactly which ones,) also have a small O-ring on the shut off screw that closes the float bowl drain tube. If that ring has gone bad it will allow gas to drain out of tube.

thanks for the replies. This bike has a fuel pump that runs whenever the key is turned on. It doesn't leak when the bike is not running with the key in the on position, only when the motor is running. Any other suggestions?
