Can-Am to release electric motorcycles in 2024

Growing up riding enduros in the ‘70’s I have memories of Can-Am 250s that were absolute beasts. Back then, around here they were king.

I came across this article and wanted to share it here for conversation

I can confirm that even as an evil sport bike guy I gots say the electric super sports have put up some impressive times. I still wanna burn dinosaurs but can’t look you in the eye and say I’m not interested.

What are your thoughts about electric bikes? What do you like or dislike? Is this going to work or is it not going to sell?

They should have kept making CanAm motorcycles. I sold a bunch of them. The 175 was the most popular.
I had a 250 with the MX motor, about 38hp. Not available to the public. Geoff Smith from the England, X MX world champion, helped with the design and build.
If the E bike has pedals, it travels for free on BC ferries. But for me it needs to be fast enough for the freeway. About 30 miles of it.

I have a PHEV and it is perfect for it's intended use which is trips under 20 miles around home. I don't think the charging infrastructure for pure electric vehicles is there yet. We used to have an electric scooter and it was zippy and fun around the campground where we used it. I wouldn't be interested in an electric motorcycle yet.

Believe me, it will be. When Can-Am started failing as a motorcycle mfr. the reason was because of California's EPA standards. Can-Am had designed a bike that was going to be serious competition and seemed to be a bike that would be a top runner. Unfortunately, it was too late for them because as a two stroke, it wouldn't pass the California EPA standards which was a huge market and as the auto industry knows, you have to build to California standards if you want to sell cars in N. America.

The point is, they can make good motorcycles and being the owner of an electric car, I can tell you that once electric motorcycles get on line, there will be no stopping them. Quebec, where Can-Am manufactures their products, has the best electric charging infrastructure in Canada, so it makes sense for them to be a pioneer in the electric motorcycle industry. I can see them doing very well in this market.
