Hello, I know you’ve probably seen many of these type of posts before, but I need to know a few things.

What’s the general criteria for buying a used bike?
I know the basics like having the service history available, the bike not having any scratches on them etc...

What if he says I did the motorcycle service on my own, or he did it in a place other than the bike manufacturer?

Any general and basic advice will be much appreciated.

Just my 2 cents worth. If buying used, there may be some blemishes or minor scratches...hey, scratch happens...don't let that keep you from buying an otherwise decent machine WAAAAY below retail. Also, and I have bought several, ask WHY they are selling it. Enjoy the ride

My advice to anyone buying a used motorcycle or car in a private sale is to have a reliable mechanic inspect the vehicle for you.

Last year one of my daughters found a car that she wanted from a dealer that I thought was shaky. We scheduled a time for my mechanic to inspect the car and arranged for a test ride to drive it to my mechanic. Cost her $50 to learn the Subaru had 2 blown head gaskets. Bad deal. We walked away. Fifty bucks well spent. Saved herself a major expense.

Back to bikes, find a reliable independent motorcycle mechanic in your area who does annual state inspections. Arrange for the seller to meet you at the mechanic's shop. If all is good the inspection cost will give you the confidence of a good deal. And you know it will pass inspection to get your sticker. If there are serious issues walk away and avoid a bad deal.
