Hi people im here in New Zealand I have recently purchased a 1983 BMW RS1000 it has a problem with one of the cylinders smoking on start up the guy i bought it from described that there is oil under the carburettor can anyone assist me with this once the bike warms up it dissapears

It was parked on centre stand for the past few days still smoked when i fired it up but thanks i will keep it on the centre stand as suggested

There is the possibility that the rings are leaking, but it was a common issue with using the side stand. With the piston being in a lower position, some oil can still make it past the rings even if they are reasonably tight.

You can do a compression test to be sure they are still sealing to spec.
