What do you think is the best light weight adventure motorcycle in 400 CC - 700 CC category. This should be able to do intermediate level off-roading and touring. We are not counting dirt bikes because they are not suitable for carrying luggage and touring. Something that is tough and can take abuse and also easy to maintain.

I always kind of liked the BMW F650GS for a lightweight adventure bike. I think it was last sold new in 2016 and offers two important advantages. First it has a relatively low seat height for an adventure bike of 31" and the gas tank sits under the seat, which significantly lowers the center of gravity. I would think this would be a major plus anywhere balance is key like riding in the dirt nor why other manufacturers have not yet seen then benefit of this, though Harley did implement this design on the Pan America.
