They sure seem to be in OKC. I've talked to a lot of guys that have laughed at other guys that mention getting a sportster. In fact, this happens so often I've actually thought this way in the past. But now I realize that hey, at least it's a Harley right??

Many of the guys that have said this didn't have any bike at the time.

Anyways, what do you guys think? For me Sportsters are kind of like riding a moped, they might be fun but I'm not sure I want my friends to see me on one. :)

Maybe you should be more concerned being seen with the type of people you hang out with than being seen riding a Sportster.

There are two types of Harley owners.

Those who just own and enjoy riding their Harley no matter what model it is and respect all other motorcyclists and their bikes, including the metric bike riders.

and then there are the A$$HOLES, who think they define what a biker and Harley owner is, but they are the biggest posers and a bad image to the motorcycling community.

naw...they're cool. One was going to rebuild a harley chopper but couldn't seem to find the time/money/drive to do so.

They're good guys they just make comments about the sporties.

yeah this is more my style...in fact, it's funny to wave at scooter riders. They often seem kinda shy or tentative waving back.

Yeah funny thing about Oklahoma, there are guys that are just set in their ways. If you don't drive a pick up, ride a harley, shoot a .45 and drink bud, you just aren't right....and nothing will ever change their minds. My buds aren't like this...in fact, I don't hang with these kinds of guys at all.

I dunno...before I got into riding, I thought they were girly bikes. Now that I'm more into riding...I don't think that way. They actually look quite fun.

The sportster has more horsepower to cc ratio (i.e. efficiency) than any of the big twins. It's faster off the line than the big twins. They were originally built as track bikes; they were fast and they could race. They're truly rad bikes. And this is coming from a Fatboy owner...

Unfortunately, these guys outnumber the rest 10:1 where I'm from. The kind who own a $25,000 Harley that they ride every Saturday afternoon a few miles to the bar where they can display it on the street and sit outside and pass judgement on all lesser bikes. "Real bikers", WTF ever.

Speaking of pick-up trucks,

While I was out last night riding on the freeway, there was a Department of Public Safety patrol car that pulled over a pick-up truck that was driving in front of me and a few miles down another DPS officer pulled another pick-up truck over.

It wasn't looking like a good night for pick-up truck drivers. :D

lol....on the way home from work today a pick up was cutting in right behind people, tailgating them and generally driving very aggressively. After about 5 miles, it started to rain and he was still only about 100 yards ahead of me but I got to watch him cause a 3 car crash! He hit the guy in front of him who then hit the car in front of him. It took me a minute to realize it was the same guy that was tailgating and all that but sure enough....there he was.

I was glad I just slowed down and enjoyed the ride home. I wasn't on my bike today either. :(

lol....yeah these guys are all over the place here also except they ride choppers. If they can't afford them, they put the OCC stickers all over their trucks.

Funny thing is, I don't see very many choppers anymore these days except parked outside bars.

Ya know, I don't know why it is, but that is a very common trait for alot of pick-up truck drivers. Tailgating, cutting people off, and overall just driving as though they take first priority on and off the road and everyone around them as though they think they are driving on some empty, backwoods, rural road and not driving on some busy city road.

Not for me, I drive a 2002 F250 Crew Cab 4x4 longbed. I call her the Behemoth. I treat it like it was a truck -- wide turns and lots of stopping distance.

Big truck for the ranch, towing the gooseneck livestock trailer, and for picking up the motorcycles off of Craigslist. Nothing small about me, bsporty ;)

Funny thing is, the only HOG I've even CONSIDERED owning was a Sportster. The 883 is HD's mpg champ (muy importante) and the 1200 was the speedy one (until the VROD came along).

It's a PEOPLE bike. Only a crazy person would consider a 900cc class or a 1200cc bike a "women bike".

Some people are just suffering from eating too many bugs while heading down the highway..

Thanks!

Good point about making fun and you're right...there is always going to be someone that will make fun of what you have at some point in time.

Oh and nice ride....for a girl. ;) j/k

lol @ eating teh bugs

That's true, 1200cc is a big engine and not really dainty or feminine at all. For me, I find it strange to see a woman on one of the big cruisers. It just doesn't look quite right for some reason.
