I ordered one of the cheap chinese cylinder/piston kits for my XL125, and the piston crown is different than my stock one. It's a little bit higher and I'm afraid of it hitting a valve! I checked to see if it would hit with no head gasket, and it did, then tried with the head gasket, not tightened down to full torque and it didn't hit. Would I be silly to try it out and risk ruining my top end with such close tolerances? Should I shave down the piston? Any help would be much appreciated!

P.S. It is a 1975 XL125, and the kit is from a company called GONGYU.

You can use modelling clay to check for proper clearance. Put some clay on the pistons under where the valves will be and torque down the cylinder head gasket before carefully and slowly rotating the crankshaft through one full turn.
