Discussion Starter #1 (Edited)
Seems like every group of riders in Oklahoma are either too religious or too redneck or too right wing. I'd like to meet up with some riders who don't want to discuss god, guns or politics. Riders who just want to go do some riding with out the BS.

So what you're saying is you want some bro's whose religion is riding, not reloading or repeating Faux News talking points?

Suggest you run a Craigslist ad and state exactly what you said above.

I can see the Ad now:

WANTED: Motorcyclists with no opinions for road trips. No stops taken for any reason, due to a lack of interest in any conversations that could cause disagreement.

In this world, my friend. we are CONSTANTLY confronted with ourselves, and issues that have more depth than just "what do we want to eat for dinner?" Face it; take it on. Be part of the Democratic approach to life.........you have a voice and so do they. Embrace it.

Where

Come to Canada.
Rarely any talk about religion, politics ( Alberta went socialist yesterday ) or guns. Few red necks in BC.
But I can find you a right wing extremest with lots of guns, lots to say about the Jews, and nothing good to say about religion. He does ride a bike, one of those 2300 cc Kawasakis. He is not the norm.
The other half of the Island bike gang is non religious, a bit left leaning, as is the whole Island, has no interest in guns. Rides a 1200 Sportster looking thing.

However I spend more time meeting and talking with other members of our Yacht Club. That stuff rarely comes up.

You may not find too many socialists riding motorcycles. Freedom is a scary thing. :D
Unlike the CONSERVATIVES, who want LESS GOVERNMENT everywhere except in my bedroom and inside women's bodies.

And in my choice of substances to inhale, ingest, inject, snort, huff, etc.

You want to generalize about liberals/socialists? How about the fact that Conservatives have CONSISTENTLY been on the WRONG SIDE of HISTORY.

Were it UP TO CONSERVATIVES, WE'D STILL BE EMBROILED IN VIETNAM.

Were it UP TO CONSERVATIVES, WE'D CURRENTLY BE AT WAR WITH IRAN, PERHAPS NUCLEAR WAR.

Were it UP TO CONSERVATIVES, WE'd have no EPA and our air would look like China. (Even despite EPA, most of the water in USA is contaminated anyway!)

Were it UP TO CONSERVATIVES, they'd GUT every government agency, starve it of $ and personnel, and THEN WHEN IT FAILED, say "SEE! I told you so!" (Witness USPS, EPA, MHS....)

Were it up to conservatives, people of color and gays would be DISCRIMINATED AGAINST and the poor would simply die like flies for lack of healthcare.

Were it up to CONSERVATIVES, every male over the age of 12 would be packing heat, and America would truly resemble Somalia or Israel where people walk around with automatic weapons 24x7.

I've HAD IT WITH CONSERVATIVES and I ain't gonna be nice, on this forum or ANYONE else to those who attack liberals and our "socialist" policies like belieivng HEALTHCARE is a right, not a privilege strictly for the wealthy among us.

We live in the richest country in HISTORY and there is MORE THAN ENOUGH to go around whether it is food or healthcare.

We DO NOT NEED six of the Walton heirs to possess more than 30% of this countries wealth, and be able to pass it along, TAX-FREE to THEIR children.

At least the Roman leaders of their city-states used all THEIR wealth to build public works, aqueducts, sewers, public baths, etc, rather then sending them to some offshore island (Mikos, Crete, ....)

The Waltons klan could DOUBLE the wages of EVERY Wal-Mart employee tomorrow without affecting their wealth 10%. And just IMAGINE what the boost to the economy would do.

You want to inject liberal/conservative "bites" into threads about motorcycles, I'm more than willing to play along. But don't expect me to PLAY NICE.

The facts are:

Lyndon Johnson signed the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution enabling the use of military force without a declaration of war by Congress.

Richard Nixon ended U.S. involvement, along with the military draft.

The facts are:

President Richard Nixon signed the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and then reorganizated environmental responsibilities under one agency, a new Environmental Protection Agency.

Fact:

Much of the public works were built with slave labor. Some leaders used some of their wealth to fund public works.

The fact is Nixon LIED to get re-elected in 1972, claiming he had a "secret plan" to get USA out of Vietnamn.

The fact is Nixon LIED to the American public and expanded the war in to LAOS and Cambodia.

The fact is Nixon ENDED the draft and the war ONLY when Congress passed legisation to cut off money FUNDING the war.

The fact is NIXON was a Hawk among hawks, and defeated Humphrey / McGovern who promised to end the war --- and would have actually done so.

The fact is NIXON took a small engagement with less than 50,000 American "advistors and troops" involved and expanded it to nearly a half million US troops.

You may correctly claim that Dick Nixon 'didn't light the fire" but he sure as HELL did nothing to estinguish it until the country was in upheaval, Congress threatened to cut off the dollars, the troops were in mutinous disarray, and it was clear even to Walter Cronkite we could and would NEVER win this conflict.

To even SUGGEST Vietnam wasn't "Nixon's pride and joy" is completely disengenuous.

As you can see, you can't even find it on a motorcycle discussion board.

Please note that I am the one that said " that stuff rarely comes up " and I usually do not raise the subject.

I believe that we could have a good entertaining discussion on politics in person, but not on this forum. I would say that assigning conservative or liberal policies to one political party or the other is where we might disagree.

I do not really know what I am any more, but I am less and less identifying with a political party, because [all of them] their pants are so on fire. I might consider myself a Kennedy Democrat on one topic or a Clinton Republican on another.

Such a waste of time when one party or the other damages the entire country just to make the other side look bad for the next election. Hurts regular people, but the politicians keep their special privilege.

I guess a good start would be to cash out all govt. retirees retirement and put them in with the rest of us on Social Security. Daniel Patrick Monihan had the most brilliant analysis of the massive SS tax increase [under Reagan] that I ever heard of. If anyone asks, I will tell you, but now I am so disgusted about the whole lost opportunity that I have to stop my comments.

............I do not really know what I am any more............
If nothing else, you are in a majority in that regard, these days. There are so many mixed messages we are bombarded with every day, that it's hard to have a solid foundation to rest on, without having that already built and established within.

Even THEN, the most rock-solid foundations shake under the influence of world events that baffle the mind. Thus statements are made like the OP, that really are saying:

-Forget your troubles, come on get happy
-All she wants to do is dance
-Somewhere over the rainbow
-Fly me to the moon

.....and other songs that encourage us to narrow our focus and dodge the world. It's based on the idea that some promote that says: "you can't change the world, so why try?!" and "Eat, drink and be merry............"
