Anyone ever heard what sounds like the drive chain hitting the inner case of the motor upon in-gear forward motion? I don't want to just start tearing things apart before getting some ideas. Simple fix or winter project?

Have you first checked the starter?

I replaced the starter clutch earlier in the year because it would sound like a bag of rocks when I tried to start it. Changed the clutch and fixed that problem. This is a different sound and it doesn't happen all the time. I'm thinking about the only way I'm going to figure it out is to open it up.

Cam chain adjustment

Honda has a pretty simple cam chain tensioner that occasionally needs adjustment. A simple search with your year and model bike should yield that info or maybe get you a YouTube video. I did the search, but the rules of this forum prohibit my giving you a direct link to the info.

Of course you could get a Honda or Clymer manual....
