Hey.

I've never road a bike in my life, but I really want one. I was pretty psyched about getting the Ninja 250r, but then I read someone say "I wouldn't take it on the express way."

Can you drive a 250 on the highway? I prefer how the 250r looks, and I don't mind not having a whole lot of power because I'm a new rider. I just need to be able to take it on the highway in order to get to where I'm going.

So.. can I take it on the highway without problems?

There's no question that a Ninja 250 CAN do it, but I didn't like taking mine on the highway. I suffered a little sensory overload when combining an engine screaming at 9000 rpms along with the wind having its way with me. I got rid of it for that reason....I couldn't relax and the ride was not very enjoyable. Loved the bike in town, but avoided the highway at all cost.

The new 250R tops out around 110 mph I believe. If thats not enough kick for ya, check a suzuki gs500 or a ninja 500. All good starter bikes to learn the fundamentals of a safe and successful rider.

This thread is a pretty radical departure from the other one you started saying you were decided on a new CBR. I hope you make an informed decision! Be smart in your purchase and keep asking questions till you are sure you have the right bike

i start school this fall and i need to be able to drive about 20-30 minutes on the highway each day. and from the results of this thread, i no longer want to get a 250 for that reason.

Then i was looking at the 08 cbr, and i really wanted that... but its alot of doe and ill probably drop it.

thus now im looking an 03 cbr..

lol i get psyched up about stuff then change my mind alot. plus this forum takes hours to respond, not alot of posters.

Stay in school , get some English classes to help with punctuation , spelling , and writing skills ... This forum responds quickly to many subjects ... Newbie posters are , Felt out by the older members and we try to accomodate ... Bigger bikes with more power / weight are preffered because of stability and manuverability ... Don't buy on price alone .. A bigger bike is usually a safer bike ..., In the right hands .....

You're starting college? Keep in mind that the Ninja 250 gets about 70 MPG. Frugality is a student's best friend!

I also feel that people who say they have to take the interstate are probably lying. There's almost ALWAYS a highway or smaller road running parallel to an interstate highway...

250 ninja can go pleanty fast to get on the highway, but it is an uneasy ride and you cant really relax, ive gotin mine up to 100 before just messing arund, wasnt on highway tho.. if its just like 15 or so mins on the highway its ok but any longer and its annoying and you will find yourself wanting to get off your bike as soon as possible

I have ridden many an Interstate mile on a 250 of one kind or another. Don't recommend it, especially, but it can be done. It's not the speed -- heck, my Toyota Corolla won't do over 90, and no one ever warns me not to go on the highway in it. But the engine's screaming, the seat/pegs/handlebars are buzzing, and the whole thing FEELS sketchy as all get-out. Physically, and psychologically, a small bike can be brutal in that setting.

Just a gentle reminder to look at the date on posts you're replying to. Unless, that is, you are wanting to just offer advice to the general populace.

At the age of 70 I no longer have the required strength to maul with larger heavier bikes but most 250 are still in the usable range As a younger man I did many runs on the A roads and motor ways on a Honda CD 175 worked well enough
s I say i reached 70 years of age

Which OP? From 2008??? :ROFLMAO:

Just adding to data-points, I've commuted on freeways with my Ninja 250 for over decade in S.F. Bay Area. It's got taller gearing for more relaxed cruising RPM. Has same mods as my track bike: full exhaust, free-flow intake, dyno-tuned for +24% more power than stock (smaller main-jets than stock gave best power). So it can reach actual 105mph compared to stock 97, radar verified during "super speeders" era of lockdown. I've also ridden it from Phoenix to Portland in 2-days and back to SF Bay Area without any problems.
