I have a 2003 Honda VTX 1800c
I bought it about a month ago and after putting about 1000 miles on it while cruising it started revving excessively without delivering the power to the wheel, it was as if the bike was not engaged. As I came to the stop sign I went to let the clutch out in first gear and nothing the bike did not move I just stayed at a standstill revving it, I tried first gear second gear third gear and still nothing it shifts in between the gears and just revs as if it were in neutral, Please help! Any thing????

Clutch is slipping, it needs to be adjusted or replaced. Do you have a service manual

Another thought, did you by chance change the oil in it? And if so what did you use?

You know, while it could be a slipping clutch that seems to be a sudden failure, and clutches usually are more gradual when they go bad, starting to slip then getting progressively worse.
I have another idea...
Your bike is shaft drive, maybe you had a failure in the shaft or final drive? A broken spline or universal joint or a stripped gearset in the final drive could explain a sudden loss of power to the wheel too. You might want to check the whole driveline out and make sure that everything is still connected.

Yeah, I was wondering about a possible sheared pin in the spline if that's how they are built. I also wonder as Critter suggested, is a recent oil change and possibly got friction modified oil. That too would account for near sudden failure. But where's the OP anyway?

I have been having the exact same issue... works great for a little bit and then after it gets hot it has the issues... let it cool down and it runs great again... and then it happens again. In researching it I have ended up changed oil, bled the clutch fluid and ended up replacing it 2 times, still having issues so I ended up replacing clutch plates and springs... just in case... nothing is helping. Did you find a solution or can anyone help me??

Is cable too tight and not releasing clutch fully? Try adjusting cable and loosening it. Turn adjust inwards so it goes into lever more. Start with about 2-3 turns in and see if that improves.

It is hydraulic and not cable ... Last night it worked for about 10-15 minutes and then just totally stopped providing power to the wheel... engine just revs and clutch just spins. Had it in the shop and beginning to wonder if they might have put the wrong oil in it possibly that is making it worse???
