Hi guys,
I have an '83 maxim 400 and need to change the fork seals but this is my first bike and I don't have the repair manual because it is like 80 bucks online...

anyway, if anyone could help me out I would appreciate it. link to tutorial, your own tutorial, anything.

fork diagram and parts list: powersedge.net/pages/parts/viewbybrand/2/yamaha.aspx

I only need the oil seal(24) right? I dont need to worry about replacing anything else as a precaution while Im in there do I?

I really appreciate any help you guys can give, I need to fix it asap...

If your bike is anything like my XJ650 you pretty much need a special Yamaha tool to get the fork apart. My Haynes manual said you can make your own and even went as far as showing a picture of the tool they made. They couldn't, however, tell you how to make it or what size bolt was needed to get the fork apart. I ended up having to take them in to get the seals replaced because of that.
Thanks a lot for the fast replies guys!

Kajun, I have a feeling you are right... Researching a bit online it seems the forks are very similar on the two bikes. Oh well, I guess I'll have to take it in. At least I figured it out though. Thanks again!
