Help. So I'm convinced valve replacement is my answer and I'm taking the engine out. As I get in deeper, I find more that has to be done to make this happen. Latest is the dual-range subtransmission and the special tool.

Anyone with experience on this bike, does the subtransmission have to come out to get the drive shaft out? Seems likely. Can I get the gears out without the special tool?

Thanks for any help. And any other advice or feedback on taking this engine out.
