Hey all,

So, I don't actually own a Vulcan 800, but my buddy does and recently (last night), he was leaving his work and doing about 20 MPH pulling out of the parking lot and the gearbox seized and ended up throwing him from the bike and leaving him with a broken arm and some cracked ribs Have any of you vulcan riders or Kawasaki riders out there ever had any problems with it? Also, I know that he's always taken very good care of his bike with regular maintenence, tune ups, etc. Make me a little worried as I ride a Kawasaki as well...

You know, those bikes have been around a good long while and I personally haven't heard of a big gearbox seizure problem with those or any bike. Might just be a freak thing.

They manufactured that machine since 1995 and we have never seen a trany problem at all in the entire mfg cycle of that engine. I would like to know exactly what caused the seizure.

Perhaps oil issues? Maybe he wasn't maintaining it right, or it leaked the oil out and seized.

Well, the insurance took the bike to the local dealership and when the dealership looked at it, they couldn't find anything wrong with the gearbox or anything on the bike for that matter (other than the apparent scratches). At this point, he can't find anyone who can explain what happened...

Maybe grabed the brake not the clutch and wham-O your it's on the ground.

New rider? Is it possible he shifted with the wrong foot? Not trying to make funny, I've seen it happen.
