I has been rainy, snowy, cold and just plain crappy here forever. Yesterday I got home from school and it was about 50* out so I decided it was time. I dug out my bike, checked everything over, and went out for a cruise. I only put about 20 miles on it because I had a ton of homework to get done. Today I walked outside to get in my car to head to work and I realized it was way too nice of a day to pass up. I went and grabbed my stuff for my bike and headed to work. It was great riding to work but a little chilly on my way home. I had a pair of long johns on on the way home so that helped a bit. It took a little bit to get used to the wind and such but I felt right at home. I am pretty sure people were wondering what I was doing when I got to work because I had a nice grin on my face. Everyone who gets to ride year round is lucky, but they don't get to experience the first ride of the year like me

Good for you! My first ride of 2010 was one week ago. I rode the bike around town and then to the dealership so I could get heated grips installed. It was only in the 20's, but the roads had finally cleared of ice and snow. Tomorrow it is supposed to be 40. ROADTRIP!

I finally got all my winter projects for my bike completed last weekend. Wednesday it was cold but no rain, snow, ice, leaves or other crap on the roads so I started riding it in earnest.
I've been able to ride for the past three days and have had a blast!! Tomorrow they're calling for 70 degrees.... Can you say ROAD TRIP!!!!! CD |

My first ride of the year was to Riverside (Riverside county, not Sacramento county) on January 5.
Nice and warm, 120 miles round trip. I was out a couple days this week, but then I saw a bike go down Wednesday, so I took the car yesterday and today. Maybe Monday. dc |

I have put on about 500 miles since January...even with this crappy Ohio weather. The other day, the weatherman said it was 38F, I had walked the dog earlier and thought it felt colder than that, checked on the computer for my area, they said the same thing. I dressed really warm that day, thank god, because when I went past several of those banks with the time and temp...they all said 28F....Jeeze was that a long cold ride....40 miles...thank goodness for heated grips...
But it was so worth it...high 60s in the afternoon ![]() Yesterday I put about 150 miles on it...hope the weather holds out some more...

Yu wouldn't be the only one to get a little cold one way to soak up the long missed enjoyment of the other way.
Ya gotta do what ya gotta do. BTW Raven, your weatherman must use the same thermometer as mine,if he says it's 40 it's 30 out.

I have rode to work the last 3 days so I was pretty happy. I finally got my chaps at a swap meet this past weekend so I can ride when it gets a little colder out.
My (soon to be) brother in law got back from Kuwait yesterday and today he went and got a new motorcycle. So far me, him, my dad, my grandpa and 2 uncles have motorcycles. I think this summer we are going to try to get together and go for a ride somewhere. It should be a good time. |

Not my first ride, but the first time I skip out on work to take a ride. The weather is predicted to be sunny and in the low 80's, so I am taking a long lunch break, about 2 and one-half hours, and going for a decent ride with a friend. If this is what climate change means for northern Illinois then I am all for it.

So far this week it has been in the 70's. Today is supposed to get to 78 so I might have to go for a ride. Next week is supposed to be rainy and low fiftys. Knowing SD, odds are it will be snowing the next week, and 90 the week after that.
