Its fun to ride near the Mississippi river between MN and WI... if you have a bike that corners well at all.

Even if you dont and have to go really slow... its still pretty..

I'm from Utah the 84119 of my screen name tells you West Valley City, but I live In Herriman which is right against the West mountain range. You can actually hop on your machine and be up a canyon within minutes to fish, hike or just ride! I love those parts of living here, but I hate the long cold winters where you can't ride cause of the snow and ice. I want to move to a coastal southern or western city where I can ride year round.

The Ozarks region of Missouri has some real nice rides and destinations. Plus, it's right across the line from North Arkansas. and right next to Oklahoma too. You could spend years here, and not do it all.

In Michigan, the tunnel of trees between Harbor Springs and Cross Village is awesome. Take Route 119 northwest out of Harbor Springs. It's a beautiful ride along the Lake Michigan shore.

greyboyfan beat me to it - rode last summer from St. Louis to NW Arkansas, all by back roads, road around Arkansas for 5 days, then back a different route. Over 2K miles, and we were ready to do it again!

I am sure they are all good rides. But I don't know the area. Please be a little more specific. I am serious, I am going to print out the directions. When I am in your state I will try them.

I haven't been able to ride out there but Sturgis, SD. I have been out in the area and there are tons of awesome scenery. Needles Highway was awesome in a car so I couldn't imagine what it would be like on a bike.

In Nevada, the best roads are mountain roads. Plenty of them can be found within
a hundred miles in all directions around Lake Tahoe.
So, technically, as the State Line runs through the center of the lake, half of them are in California.

Default Colorado

In US 285 South Denver to Buena Vista - 3 mountain passes - one at 10k feet.

US 550 from Silverton, CO to Ouray, CO (aka The Million Dollar Highway) includes plenty of hairpins and S curves, lacks guardrails and has Red Mountain Pass.

Pikes Peak Highway - name says it all - Elevation 14,400ft - mostly dirt toll road but a good drive. (Or get off two wheels and ride the Cog railroad up it to keep the bike clean)

Royal Gorge Bridge - ride over the highest suspension bridge in the world! 1053 ft over the Arkanas River. (Just outside of Canyon City, CO)

AND MANY MORE IN THE BEAUTIFUL COLORADO ROCKIES!

BTW - look me up when you get here, cause I'll ride em with you!

Default Arizona

I spent some time in AZ also - a great drive is:

AZ 89A from Flagstaff to Sedona - through Oak Creek Canyon. Twisties and scenery there is hard to beat in AZ.

Desert to Mountan ride - Highway 87 "The Beeline Highway" east out of Phoenix to Payson. From there you can continue on 87 north thru Pine to Winslow or my favorite - take 260 east out of Payson to Show Low and Pinetop, AZ.

Also 89 North out of Flagstaff to the Jacob Lake, south on 67 to the north rim of the Grand Canyon.

There is also the drive to Hover Dam that is a sight to see also.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park, 20 miles from the ND / MT border on I-94.
Also just a good place for ideas on roadtrips.

I live here in Maine, and there are many beautiful roads to ride. Granted, they may be rough, but the scenery is outstanding. Especially during the foiliage season, when everything is red, orange and yellow. Rt. 1 along the coast is especially nice, particularly during the summer.

I'm from IA. Unless your into corn, windmills, or deer there is not a ton to see here. But there are a few things to see. If you were to come through IA, east to west, I would recomend heading just a but north of the interstate to hit hwy 30. Once your on hwy 30 head to Mt Vernon to the Palisades Kepler state park. Definitely the nicest park I have been to in Iowa, for the view anyway. From there you could head further west to the Amana's and check out the amish way of life, and maybe get some of that Amana root beer. From there I would recomend the scenic bypass from middle amana to Le grand. Thats my favorite route for a ride that I have found in this state. Then from there its pretty much corn and windmills. hit the other scenic bypasses going west for the best roads and views. Other POI's in this state would be Fairfield IA, lots or crazy **** to see there. Eldon, IA for the american gothic house. Lake Rathbun by moravia. Lake redrock by Knoxville. Snake alley in Burlington.....Wow, thats really all I can think of worth seeing. If you do head through IA I would be more than happy to join you for a while and show you what I know of assuming I'm available.

Oklahoma: rough pot holed roads, we like to invited the worst out of state contractors with the shoddiest materials to build our over priced roads. We have removed most of our rest areas and just recently increased our tolls on our toll roads. We have more toll roads than any other state other than New York. You will also have to watch out for the redneck hillbilly cops who dress in Gestapo uniforms who love to pull over out of state riders and drivers for instant gratification. Hey, just funnin ya, the state is actually worse we have some of the worst bridges in the nations. It's always a wild time when you are cruising down the highway at 70+ and see a 2 foot pot hole in an interstate bridge. Last but not least you really have to watch out for redneck cagers who love to tailgate you and cut you off. Oklahoma drivers love cutting across four lanes of highway to exit at the last minute. This is where road rage began!

Kansas and Nebraska, are two States, that you just cannot wait to get out of!
If only the speed limits were higher, it would not feel so much as a death sentence ridding through them.
Not a river, mountain or even a town to see from the highway. Nada, Zip, Zero.
Nothing to see and the scenery never changes.

Depressing States.

Right here in PA we have some nice back roads through the mountains just north of harrisburg. Or the lancaster area or reading, lots of back road highways.

Take a ride to Robbinsville and pick up either a run to Cherohala Skyway or the Dragon Tail at Deals Gap. Or run to Tellico Plains and head over to Bald River Falls or the other end of Cherohala or hit up the Blue Ridge Parkway for awsome views. We frequently take a run to Helen GA for lunch and then take up to Anna Ruby Falls. Another fun short ride from Murphy is go through Nantahala Gorge eat lunch by the river and follow the backroads to Robbinsville. Most any jaunt along mountain roads will give results.

I enjoy CR539 through NJ. 2 lane, but it's 55mph, decent scenery and curves, dotted yellows for passing, and so on.

Beiing I'm from Pa originally, I'd agree there are plenty of nice cruisin roads there. Now I'm in the pan-handle of West Virginny on a very popular road for bikers. Head in to WV on U.S. rt 522 south, you'll come in to the town of Berkley Springs (5miles), take a right on RT 9 west (this is the road) it'll take by the panarama overlook, through a couple of small towns, Great Cacapon, Largent (17 miles)(my town, population 5) and the road winds by the cacapon river, from there you can head back north into Maryland on 51(7 miles) headed towards Cumberland or ya can head south on 29 down into WV with the option of going into Virginia. Here, where I'm at I can be in MD in 8 minutes PA in a half hour and Virginia about 20 minutes. And I'll add that Virginia has the famous skyline drive through the blue ridges, spectactular in the fall. Lots of mountain rds to ride, just don't take the "WRONG TURN"

Default Best Roads in MS

I live in the middle of Mississippi, just north of Jackson.
The best roads to ride would probably be the Natchez Trace... which runs from Nashville, TN to Natchez, MS (on the Mississippi River). It is a national scenic roadway, and the road is in good shape, but the speed limit is like 50 mph... the scenery is great.
Next would be Highway 61, which runs from Memphis south to Baton Rouge, La. It's miles and miles of country road through the MS delta. If it's getting late, and you're into the blues, stop at a juke joint to get liquored up and get yo groove on.
Lastly, Highway 90 which runs along the Gulf Coast, depending on the time of day, it can be kinda slow with stop-n-go traffic...the food and scenery are great, and there's casino gambling along the coast... If you'd prefer, you could just flush your bills down the toilet to save time in the casinos.... or make a quick run to New Orleans which is anywhere from an hour to 90 minutes away.

I grew up in Apollo, PA. I love the Rt 30 run from Greensburg over to Gettysburg in the fall, when the leaves are changing, but really, any time of year. Stop in and see the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville - brings a tear to my eye just thinking about those HEROS.

The Susquehanna Trail. I've neve had the pleasure, but it looks like a great ride. Next time I'm back in PA visiting family I'll have to make a detour on the bike.

Default PA scenery

Another great area is the north part of the state. I like the back 2 laners that run from Scranton to Erie through Coudersport, Port Allegheny and everywhere in Potter County - God's Country!

I've never done US 6 the whole way, I like the path less travelled up in those parts . . . if you don't get lost a few times you'll never discover everything that there is up there.

Eastern Ohio is where I lived and now go back to frequently. Just look at any Ohio map south of Canton Ohio and east of I-77, then take your pick. Almost all the roads are great for motorcycles. Some like SR646 just above Steubenville/Wintersville and especially SR536 just across the river from New Martinsville WV will tie your Wing in knots. There is some good riding for about 40 miles east of I-77 as well as south of I-70 just below and east of Columbus.

If you base yourself in New Philadelphia/Dover Ohio you can go about any direction and have great riding. The best riding into Amish country is done on any day but Sunday, because most decent restaurants are closed on Sunday.

It's fairly close too.

Cypress, I thought they were oak trees that are pregnant or had beer bellys.
If they are not pregnant. Then where do baby trees come from?
