If I did, I wouldn't have gotten a ticket.
the problem with this 883cc engine, its enough for riding, but it still can't beat a cage on the top end(over 100 mph). the way I passed the cop, if I was on a crotch rocket(or even my old cage) I could have WOT'ed, slid around the first turn, and hit the backroads, all before this cop would have said the first sentace on the radio. instead I got 80+ in a 50.

I don't see the logic in risking your life running from the relatively mild consequences of your own decisions. Every time I get caught speeding I pull over immediately, am respectful to the cop and they let me go. Worst case scenario they'll give me a ticket. Worst case scenario of running is death. Or if you get caught instead of a stupid ticket you get a convicted of a crime that could ruin your life.

I don't run from the cops, however, if you pass them and can make a few quick turns with a little acceleration before they establish contact behind you, then I saw no harm no foul unless you endangered someone.

GI, One thing to remember is, most cop cars have cameras now, once he hits his lights, the camera comes on. If you had managed to get away, the odds would be good that he would have gotten the back of your bike on camera, and then, all they need is a plate number. Remember, your average LEO is pretty smart, and also has a lot of technology to back him up nowdays as well. If you get caught, your caught, and if you try running, they WILL get you in the end 9 times out of 10. Thats my $.02

What they say is, you can't outrun a radio. So I hope you don't do that. In many states fleeing is a felony, in other words, a much more serious level of crime.
Not the type of thing you want on your record. Nor the thing you want to sit in jail for. Let it be a lesson to slow down a bit. Harley's are cruisers, not racers, aren't they? dc |

dude at the end with all the stop lights, traffic and crap like that, you'll get from point A to point B in pretty much the same amount of time. Yeah maybe you might shave off a few minutes, but how many do you REALLY think you're saving? 4-5? 10 if you're extremely lucky? I don't thin it's worth speeding...

When I was younger (20's thru mid 30's) it was on like donkey kong with me and the cops but the technology was not like it is now. I lost track of the times I out ran the cops. Got away sometimes and not other times. It was fun all the time, at the time. So I can't say nothing bad about GI Jack's actions, something he has to work out himself.... I am older,I'm tired and its much better obeying the law for me. All things considered I know I am lucky and a poster child for God watches over little kids and fools.

Man, I don't know what the situation is where you live but there are so many traffic cams around here that even if they didn't get you with the car cam they would get you going through an intersection.

All you really have to do to outrun the police is use the old wooden bridge to jump the creek, the cops never make that jump.
The ole "quickly pull down an alley and watch them zoom past" trick usually works pretty well too. |

Right, the Dukes of Hazard technique. The cops car will definitely become a dirt plow as soon as they land on the other side of the bridge.

All I need now is an old wooden bridge close to where I ride.

If a cop is established behind you, running is sure dumb. but if you fly by him, make some turns, disappear, he didn't get your plate, nor did his camera. Still, you don't want to run into him in a week or two.
Fleeing means persuit. GI wasn't talking about persuit, he was talking about merely disappearing before hte cop could take action. Those are two entirely different things.

You can actually find a pretty decent older sportbike perfectly capable of outrunning the cops for under $2000 easily.
My 2000 Ninja ZX6E cost $1300 and will run 140 easily. My buddy has $1500 in a mid 90s Honda CBR600 that will hit 150. No reason you cant afford a sportbike that will outrun the cops, should be easy to do. Assuming they are driving a Crown Vic they shut off at 125ish.....dont know about the new Chargers. Impalas and the others wont even hit 125....so your in the clear. Think of all the fun you could have..... |

I think cops on motorcycles understand the need for little bit speeding when you are riding. The other day i was doing 55 in a 40 limit zone and suddenly i saw this cop on a motorcycle with his gun pointed in the direction of the traffic, for a split second i thought he will come after me but when i looked in my rear mirror, he was not there. Initially i didn't see him and when i passed him i was at the constant speed.
So may be the motorcycle cops understand other bikers .. but its diff if you are at an insane speed... like 100

I saw the police with a motorcycle pulled over yesterday.
Just remember I don't care what bike you got, at what price, you cannot outrun a radio. The cop has a radio, he radios other cops, and airplanes, and helicopters. And you sit in jail. dc |

Just so you know, here is another tool that I can see quickly being adapted to picking up speeders...

Depends greatly on the area. For instance in a rural area where the nearest cop may be 20 miles away.....well that gives you plenty of opportunity vs a metro area crawling with cops.

There is an opportunity. You could ... could get away.
Just like if you have big ears, or bigger ears, you could ... could be the Easter bunny. But it clearly is not worth the risk. You can try it. But just remember if you do, it ain't worth the risk. dc |

But Ive seen heard/seen my share of motorcycles pull away from cop cars never to be seen again......but I work in Iowa....where rural really means rural. .....then Ive also seen a few that were found piled up in a corner/tree/stationary object despite pulling away from the squad. .....getting away happens though, no doubt about it. I think the OP should buy a Hayabausa and give it a shot....sounds like fun. |
