Default Where to get good/cheap gear

When I bought my ninja 250, I included my jacket, gloves, and helmet in my financing (pretty sure I overpaid). I still need pants, boots, and a full racing suit (I want to go to the track). Where do I get gear that's reasonably price; I don't want to sacrifice quality for money, but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg either.

Pants and boots are pretty cheap, depending on what you get. If you are looking to save some cash, check the closeout section at sites like Newenough.com or motorcyclesuperstore.com.

Full racing suits are going to cost some money.

If you get pants, just look for something that has a 360 degree zipper that you can zip a leather jacket to. As far as I know, most tracks will accept a 2 piece leather suit as long as it is fully zipped together.

I have Joe Rocket Blaster 2.0 pants and a Blaster 3.0 jacket that zip together. They work well. Whole thing cost me about $370.

I have had good luck at Dennis Kirk. No matter where you shop, a full suit will be expensive.

www.motorcyclecloseouts.com is a good place to look. Just picked up a Shift Octane jacket for $200, original price is $450 and some places are still selling it for that. Also grabbed some Fieldhsheer Bullet II gloves for $80, most places are asking $140 or so.

I have a budget solution,
you need good gear so buy a half decent summer set but n winter wear some sking trousers over it and a jacket(works great for me)

If you are buying leatherup make sure you buy some decent quality stuff. Some of the Xelement products are kind of poorly made, For example I got some gloves a few weeks ago from xelement where the stitching on the thumb came loose and I had to actually stitch it back myself.

In that same sense I got some awesome riding boots for only 70 bucks that Iv had over 5 months with no problems. Very high quality leather and well built. Feel sturdy. I got a Jacket from them also that is very solid in quality for a low price. It really is luck. Sometimes ull get a lemon with Xelement though just letting you know.

i wouldn't buy anything for the track from leatherup.....or daily riding for my money, but that's just me.

newenough is great, check them every few days!

sportbiketrackgear is THE place for track gear though, and Brian Vann does excellent video reviews of pretty much everything that enters their warehouse. not to mention he's been down more times while doing trackdays than you. serious gear works, and it works right the first time.

i personally wear mostly Teknic leathers, they strike a nice price point between no name leathers and super high end brands like Dainese and Alpinestars.

note that some brands generally only do specific types of gear and just because you haven't heard of them doesn't mean they're not up to par. Sidi makes some of the best boots, Held makes some of the best gloves, RS Taichi and Spidi make great full suits. Nolan and Vemar make great helmets, though you'd hardly hear of them outside the european market.

learning as much about gear as possible is the best thing anybody can do.

lastly, i'll link this up....just so you have a baseline idea of quality.....full leather race suits at $150-200?!?!?! well i suppose sub-par leathers are better than what most of you wear anyway.....oddly enough i haven't heard many bad reviews about them yet, just that you get what you pay for.

when it comes to gear i shop in 3 places: newenough, sportbiketrackgear, and craigslist.

Craigslist is going to have THE best prices on suits. my current suit MSRP's for $1200. Got it for $450 in good condition. My previous CL suit buys: Spidi suit MSRP 899, CL price: $250. A* tz-1 2 piece MSRP 699, CL price 200. A* Stage 1 pc, MSRP 799, CL price: $300. Teknic Chicane, MSRP $399, CL price, $150. Sidi Vertigo Corsa Boots, MSRP $399 CL price $200.

etc, etc. never shop at berts. Go there to try stuff on. Their "sale" prices = regular price at any internet store.
