Default Intruder vs Virago

Hello all,

I currently, have an older Yamaha FZ600 which I like however, I want to switch to a cruiser. I have narrowed my choices down between the Virago and Intruder. I am staying in the low price range and trying to pick something up in the mid-late 80's vintage.

I have found a few really great condition bikes. Does anyone have any preferences between a Virago and Intruder? Any experiences that would make anyone lean one way or the other?

The bikes I have looked at are an 86 and 87 Intruder both 700cc. I have also looked at an 85 and 86 Virago both 700 and 1000.

I currently found a black 87' Intruder with drag pipes, drag bars, new tires, new battery, fork bag and no rust at all however the gentleman is stuck at 1800 on the price. KBB value is 1675 and there are alot out there for the 1200-1500 price range. This bike is perfect now, and those bikes just need some polishing to bring them to the same condition.

I asked him to lower to 1500-1600 as I think this would be a good price for the bike. I can't see paying over KBB right now.

Any thoughts on any of these?

As always everyone is a big help thanks so much.

I got an 87 Intruder VS700 for $1700 about a month ago, sounds like the one you are looking at is in a bit better condition, I just replaced my rear shocks because one of them was blown, also mine was completely stock (which is what I wanted).

I like my Virago alot, but FWIW, I'm having a heck of a time finding some electrical parts economically.

I'd go with the Suzuki. Virago starters of that vintage are horrible.
