again question in bold
![]() so i was riding in the wind today...kinda, it wasnt windy at all actually, but the biggest gust of wind hit me...but i didnt have my arms stiff and wasnt really in a O S**T moment, so i rode on...i didnt realize what happened till after i was riding, the wind came from the front left of my bike, down the side, weird thing happened-my bike leaned itself into the wind, and i dont mean a small 1 inch difference, i mean 6+inches of lean(that i did NOT do...that i know of) so my question, are sport bikes made to be so aerodynamic that they will lean to the curves of the wind, and correct itself after? my weirdest thing was, why didnt i continue leaning!?...i only had the lean while the wind was hitting me, and it just went back up without me doing anything at all...i bet cars behind me where kinda like uhhh... o yeah-car almost hit me before hand ...i think God is testing me (stole my lane on a red light...i mean what the ****?!...i was turning right though, needless to say i had to ride the bike lane an extra car length than i had planed to(no worries, made sure no bikes where on the road!) hahaedit: maybe this should b in sport bike section? idk where you guys would want it Last edited by ARoy1; 07-09-2009 at 08:18 PM.. |

I'd bet you just shifted your weight to counter the wind without even realizing it, making the bike lean and then stand back up. Probably a good thing since you're automatically adjusting your weight without realizing/thinking about it. I know I do it on mine when a gust hit me.

The scary part is when your in a howling wind, go behind something that cuts it off momentarily, and you start heading to the ditch. ![]() LOL |

Something doesn't sound right.
I've never heard of any bike "automatically" leaning into the wind. My guess is this was rider input. You mentioned that a car almost hit you immediately beforehand. Is it possible that you were looking at the car? Whether we want to or not, we go where we look (i.e. towards the escape route in a tight situation or that pretty girl when we're gawking). From your description, the car was on your left. You looked at the encroaching car on your left, you "leaned" left. In truth, you didn't really lean left: you probably counter-steered left (Look left; push on left bar; go left). My 50-cent analysis ![]() |

should have been more clear with the car(happened about a mile beforehand)(i was stopping to get gas, and yeah, took the lane
)i was thinking i might have done it, but i had saw a friend to the right of the street(was going a lil to fast to pull over and say wassaaappp! haha) so i dont think counter steering was a big role in it, as i would have leaned to the right, and it was toward the left... im a new rider, coming up on a month, so i automatically dismissed just a natural lean into the wind, but with all my off road biking before, its a pretty strong idea i suppose haha-and my adrenalin was pumping because of the car, so maybe it just brought back some old feelings i had for 2 wheeled operations? one of those unsolved mysteries i assume haha. ![]() |
