LOL I guess you were tired of never having anything to fix, or at least a few bolts to tighten.

It's a 2006 model FX. Already tricked out a bit. Forward controls, drag bars, V&H Shortshots, etc. Wheels, forks, etc already blacked. Will be blacking out more (no chrome). Pic attached.

Here's a shot from the other side. Shocks have been replaced by a set of 11 inch struts. I don't plan to do much to the bike, other than ride it. I'll pick up a detachable pillion to make my wife happier. And I may replace a few of the engine parts with HD blacked parts. I'll put a small tool bag on the forks to carry gloves, glasses, a small flashlight, etc (same thing as on the Honda). But this is pretty much exactly what I was looking for (yeah, I've been shopping around for a while, looking at Harley's, Trumpets, various bobbers, etc). I plan to keep the Honda. I'm putting a Spyder sidecar on it so I can scoot around town with the kids and the dog.

Does it ride a bit bumpy without rear shocks?

I haven't ridden it yet. It's not even home yet. Gotta get the registration and all done. But I imagine it is, yes. Probably a lot like a true hardtail, if you've ever ridden one (I had a couple years ago...). But I like that. My Jeep is set up with a very rigid suspension. It rides like a Jeep, not like a **** Cadillac.

Progressive makes some great shocks if the struts prove to be uncomfortable. You could also swap them back and forth with the struts fairly easily if your wife doesn't like the ride and you do.

Are you planning to powder-coat the engine black?

In the second picture...what is underneath that gray part? I like the way Harleys look from the other side but that piece to me...I just don't like it. It gets a bit big on some other makes as well. Why is it so big? I get it's a big bike but... Other than that one piece...it's a fine looking bike Can you black that out? That would look great!

Thanks for the tip. I may end up doing that (the shocks). But the struts do make it look and sit nice.

I don't plan on powder coating the engine, no. Way too much trouble. However, Harley does make some engine parts and covers that are powder coated, and I may swap out for those, if I get bored.

justified -- sorry, but I have no idea what you are referring to. Underneath the gray part? Are you talking about the crankcase?

The gray part on the left side of the bike with the chrome disk is the primary drive. It houses the clutch and the primary chain that that attaches the engine to the transmission. It has oil inside to keep the clutch wet and the chain lubed.

Thanks, Chuck. V&H makes two kinds of baffles for the Shortshots, so I can "be nice" when I want (need) to be, and loud when I need (want) to be.

A number of aftermarket pipes have the option of "quiet baffles", so you can swap them back and forth. Cobra, V&H, I think they all make at least a couple of models with that.

What's really cool are the National Cycle Peacemakers. With those, you just flip a switch on the handlebar and go from "nice" to "naughty" instantly. There's a great vid on the NC website, showing a guy passing a couple of nuns and switching to nice, etc.

I haven't read any information on how these deal with the changes in the fuel mixture between open and closed.

Me, neither. But I would imagine you would tune the book for open, and just live with the inefficiency for the brief times when you ran it closed. Unless of course you ran it closed more often, in which case do the opposite. I suspect the latter would actually work better...but I'm not sure.

Maybe an aftermarket ECM could be set with a couple different presets to adjust the fuel mixture. A remote control for that located on the same switch would be the cat's meow.

Chain -- I still have the Aero. I may keep it, haven't decided. If I do, it will be my sidecar bike. Rode it last night and I still love it. Great machine.

awwwww!!! that looks nice! I've always wanted to ride a HD with slightly mod'd exhaust pipes to let some of that engine rumble out...
just can't afford it however... and I wouldn't look right. I don't like wearing anything other than a full faced helmet.
