Default My Encounter with the Hells Angels in Raleigh

Anyone vaguely familiar with Raleigh,NC has heard about foxy ladies. Everyone went to fox ladies, people came from far and wide to go to foxyladies. One Saturday afternoon me and a few of the patches decided to take the prospects on an outting. We decided to go to Foxy ladies. I am pretty sure it was Foxy ladies but its been 20-25 years ago. It was a topless bar for sure. And it was a great day for a ride. It was about 70 miles away. We had been there before, knew bartenders and dancers (shout out to Dusty). The ride there was uneventful, spirits were high. Arriving and seeing the usual amount of bikes parked on the outside , we parked ours and went inside. It took us a few minutes to acclimate to the darkness and when we did we noticed the gaggle of HA in the house and the biggest one was walking towards us. Alrighty, I thought here we go again. So the big huge guy walks up and introduces himself as either Tank or Juke box or something like that and asked to speak to the leader. Being the spokesperson for our group that would be me. I step forward and introduce myself, shake hands and introducd the rest of the group. He then goes on to say that as a consequence of "Operation Rough Rider" the local Chapter of HA (Durham at the time I think )have been told by the FBI they cannot wear their colors and if they can't we can't either. I then explained, fine we can take off our colors but we have club t shirts under those and we're not drinking beer naked. So the big guy says to follow him outside and heads to the back door. F and S. I knew I was in for some controversey and I was nervous but I went with him because I would rather catch a beating then loose face. Maybe I would get lucky and beat his ass. I was a pretty rugged guy and wrestled in high schol and college, been in more then a few scraps(but this guy was huge). I stepped out into the bright lights and shut the door behind me and got ready for what ever. I take a deep breath and the guy starts talking...To my relief the guy thanks me and our guys for not causing a situation and for being understanding of the issue. He then asks questions about where we are from and are we affiliated with anyone and stuff. He then says lets go back in and he'll buy everyone a drink and we can keep our colors on. In the process of that suare we were asked to come back on Thursday as the president and some of the prospects will be there and we can meet them. We said sure that'd be great. I knew we would not be going back in Thursday anyways. I have the utmost respect for the Hells Angels but I was well aware of their push to absorb smaller clubs like ours and we were all just happy with the way we were. Business was good. We had a neutral relationship with everyone so far and thats the way we were hoping to keep it. So no we never went back on Thursday anyways.

In the years to come some of the guys would violate the don't ride alone with your patch deal and pay dearly. The patch is not supermans cape and its only as relevant as your ability to defend it. And there is safety in numbers always.

These things can go very bad if not handled with respect and not crazy talk. One time The Ghost Riders MC Fayettville chapter was alerted that an out of state club from Virginia was in town. I forget the name of the out of state club. Regardless, the Ghost Riders Sgt of Arms I guy named Steve they call Bigfoot, army guy about 6foot plus(married and father of 2) and a couple Ghost Rider patches go to where the out of state MC club was and start confronting the situation. I wasn't there but I knew the Goldsboro Chapter of the Ghost Riders well and some of the members of the Fayetville chapter and what ever was said caused Steve "Bigfoot" Daughtry to be shot dead right there on the spot. I rode in his funeral. It was very sad. What a shame. Unecessary. I mean they are both motorcyle club members from ****s sake.

honestly, all this cruiser club crap is beyond lame. i'm glad this didn't escalate into anything physical, but this whole mentality of clubs and organizations that have issues with any other riders is absolutely ridiculous.

so what if i'm part of a local group of sportbike riders that is predominantly black (and i'm as white as they come), i'll be ****ed if i'm going to deal with anybody complaining about colors or biker gangs.

bunch of **** jungle monkeys that don't deserve to ride if you ask me.

i know, the irony of it all hahaha. sorry if i comes off a bit anal about the whole my group vs yours kinda thing, but i'm a firm believer that all 'real' motorcyclists are part of the same group and shouldn't differentiate under hateful reasons.

True and also in the case of the big and well known one percenters, why, when you are already under duress by local state and federal law enforcement would you want to make your existence more difficult. I never was able to understand that aspect of the culture/way of life. Stepping outside the boxnits bad for business, draws attention to yourself, and numbers will be down (who wants to run and join an organization which puts a big bullseye like that on your back).

I have had run ins like that in the past and I wasn't part of a MC club or even wearing any colors. A old rundown bar we all use to hangout when I was in my early 20's was taken over by the MC Tribe..believe its a chapter of the HA. anyways they would come more and more and take over the place. Ass grabbin everyones girls and what was anyone gonna do about it you know. Well one nite they came in and said the bar is closed...MC Tribe meeting...everyone out. Well some of the guys took offence and it got ugly. I mean I was just like forget this...get the hell out of here. The leader was there....he looked like Ozzy Os. with long black hair and this long black fu-man-chi mustache and go-tee...and carried a long wooded ax handle with a big chrome skull and a blunt point on the end of it...with all these hot ass chicks hangin all over him...just sitting there like a king on the throne...it was crazy. Forget all that...I ride with group and hangout but I will never wear anyones colors.

ironhide has illustrated more what I would expect from outlaw MCs. I wouldn't mind wearing colors of a 99% club but I really don't have a big desire to defend the hue of fabric I'm wearing. I do want to get my concealed carry permit as well, but I'm not stressed about getting it too soon because it would be really hard to conceal a .44 mag super redhawk with a 7 1/2 inch barrel. Something about hiding a 3 pound gun seems like a hassle.

The clubs down here are ridiculous. Its a bunch of morons who most of the time don't know how to ride, on stretched out 600's that think they are badasses. I laugh at them when they talk about riding and invite them to hit lime creek road.....never happens.

So far I've never encountered any 1%ers but here on Long Island the CMA actually meets sometimes at a Hell's Angel club house. I've been meaning to get some rides in with the CMA but haven't gotten around to it yet (I'm usually busy when they have their events).

As for your story, I'm glad it turned out well. If it were me I probably would have politely left when confronted, especially since I'm alone 99.9% of the time.

CMF is me having a brain fart while typing CMA, which stands for Christian Motorcycle Association.

Thats cool....I never heard of it...I personally never even thought of joining any bike club...I just like to ride and whoever I'm with that day is my club. I got my bike blessed about a month ago at the Western PA Chapter of a national biker club...maybe it was CMA...I will have to look...I got pin and a sticker for bike that says Blessed in 09

I haven't seen a comfortable holster for one either, and they are hard to conceal.

This all seams stupid to me but to each there own. I never felt the urge to do anything like this although the closest I've ever come to a 1% is through reading Hells Angels by Thompson, so I can't say there has been an outside influence on me.

The thought of not only riding, but living a life true to a code is appealing to me, but I go by my own code. I don't need a patch or the validation of others.

I been riding since 13-15 I am not 53. Its almost impossible not to attend a tattoo exposition or motorcycle gathering and not run into Hells Angels or some other group. Remember no 2 people are the same. And no matter whose path you cross, always lead with the respect card, whether hells angels or a homeless person. I have walked through the blackest run down **** neighborhood in Providence,Brown town in Goldsboro, walked right into a dance hall and was the only white guy and by myself on my bike, asked a black girl to dance and dance we did. No body f'ed with me. Not because I am a billy bad ass either because I am not. I think its because I am Polish.

Biker gangs? What for? I don't get it. The only reason I could ever see anything like this having a purpose is in a place where if you're alone, you're going to get taken advantage of or robbed or beaten or something. Then I might join a "gang". The way you tell it though, it just seems like it's all pretend, make believe play to feel badass?

If there is more meaning to it, please let me know.

The real gangs are criminal enterprises, although they will refer to themselves as "riding clubs". They are generally funded by drug manufacture and delivery as well as other illegal activities such as gun running, protection rackets, gambling, and prostitution.

There are actual riding clubs as well that aren't criminal organizations.

Hells Angel, while having members/chapters involved with criminal activities, not all are involved with ciminal enterprises. Thats the media and publics persona. I'm not blindly defending them I just know this to be so. Some own used car lots, one guy is a wedding caterer, some into real estate etc... Its not known or reported because it doesn't sell papers.

Then they saw that I can and really good. While in college, being from the country, growing up in the North North east and that being the first time I was ever around alot of black folks of any extent I was not prejudice. Still aren't. While attending weekend parties at the college I guess it must have always looked like I wanted to dance because a couple of the black girls in my dorm insisted on showing me personally how to go about the dancing deal. Fortunately I inherently have rythym. Some poor folks just absolutely do not. Its not just a white folks malady. I have met some black folks that don't have a rythymical bone in there body.

And the rest is history or hysterical?

Check out these comments from New Zealand. They apply to one smallish town, and one mayor, who has a thing about ALL gangs, not just the HA - if they are in fact a gang?

<Hells Angels will argue it is not a gang but a motorcycle club and a ban on its patch would breach the Bill of Rights, before a council subcommittee on Friday, the Dominion Post reported.
Christchurch lawyer Steven Rollo said he had been hired to fight the bylaw.

He would not rule out court action.

His submission said the Hells Angels were not a gang and did not exist for criminal purposes.

"It has a reputation which it does not entirely deserve and which is founded on the exploits of individuals that tend to be exaggerated."

In submissions to the council, bikie Shane Bullock said Hells Angels was not a gang "but a motorcycle club and patch not worn to intimidate but show membership of a club with common interest brotherhood and motorcycling".>

And yes, the Hells Angels are still alive and well in Durham.

Never ran into the HA as of yet but Sons of Silence is a different story 1% always want to control the 99%ers just because it makes them feel better. If you stand up to them and dont offer your patch, rocker, full colors whatever they try to take they normally back down a bit.

Nope, and probably never will. They wouldn't consider that as a "patch" or even as "colors" in their world. About the same as wearing a Harley logo or a Suzuki logo or whatever. It's saying "I'm no threat to you guys and I don't want to infringe on your turf. I'm just riding through and I'll be no danger to you."
