Default Eys watering.

I wear a half helmet and I'm finding when I start to get to 50 and above my eyes water so much it's hard to see the rode.

does any one else have this problem? Does it go away over time? I bought some bobster goggles that are really comfortable and sharp looking but my insurance decided to not cover any contacts for me so I'm stuck wearing my old specs.

You really need to get and wear proper eye protection. I don't think eyes will ever adjust to having the moisture sucked out of them by the highspeed winds. If you can't wear the googles you bought, you should probably get some sort of face shield in the meantime. Normal glasses have a whole lot of open space around the lens which minimises the wind protection they offer. Your eyesight is incredibly important, and a rock to the eye on a highway could spell blindness for the rest of your life. If you dont protect anything else, please protect your eyes.

I agree, your eyes will not get used to it. You need glasses that fit to your face better. I know bobster makes several glasses / goggles with interchangable lenses and you can order perscription lenses for them, that may be something worth looking into.

Motocross-style goggles can be worn over most eyeglasses. A good windshield will also help a lot.

Default Contacts

I can tell you contacts wont solve that problem. I wear them and they dry out bad if the wind gets to them. I think it is worse with contacts. I wear a full face helmet and have a windshield and lowers. The lowers helped with the wind in my face more than anything. The wind was coming up and going under my helmet. The lowers stopped this.

I have the full face, but at slow speed I open it up an inch or two, and about 30 mph the wind into my eyes makes me close it. Bugs, dust, dirt, stones, etc., starts flying into my eyes and my eyes water to say the least.
So I close it.
Eye protection and ear protection (from noise) is your best bet.

Thanks for all the help, I'm hoping a windshield will work until I get some contacts, if not I'll get some bigger goggles.

Like another poster said, contacts will not help. Unless you are getting the contacts so you can wear a set of goggles. I wear contacts and I cannot ride at all with the wind in my face. I need my shield down all the way at 35mph or my eyes water so bad that I'm blind.

If you want contacts so you can get goggles to fit better, that is ok, but there are goggles out there that work with glasses, so look around and find a set of those.

You don't want to be out on the road without good eye protection. I've wiped some pretty sick stuff off my mask, from seagull droppings to dead hornets. You are definitely going to regret it if you don't protect your eyes.

Exactly. I know everyone has their preference but I'd be dead now if it weren't for a full face helmet so I gotta put in a vote for getting one.

Solves your problem entirely and could easily save your life.

I have a pair of these, and I've been real happy with them: http://tinyurl.com/393szs.

There's an optional prescription insert for it: http://tinyurl.com/2pafs9

I typically wear contacts with them, and haven't filled the prescription yet, but will soon. It's a pretty cool design; the insert snaps in between the frame and the interchangeable lenses.

These look nice. Are they shatter-proof? Went to the website, but couldn't find any info.

My eyes water pretty badly when riding without a full face helmet on my Nighthawk, and I even wear glasses. When I am on my Puch a half helmet is more than sufficient, as it's top speed is 35-40mph.

I bought a visor for my 3/4 helm but the thing snapped at the connection point the second time I took it off! I'm going to go back when the store opens and demand another.

Dumb question (first of many) - do you wear these over or under the helmet?

Yeah those 3/4 snap visors take a little careful working to get on and off. I have one too and it works great. But I really hate wearing it. I always feel dumb as hell looking. Think i might try those fit overs a member suggested. cheap too! I also have another idea. I found some WWII era welders glasses and would like to try having some prescription lenses put in those. What do yall think?

Most motorcycle goggles with a strap wear over the helmet.

I wear a Z1R Drifter half helmet and use a full windshield, I have no problems with winds other than cross winds. I get a lot of buffeting with my full face helmet but very little with the Drifter. A windshield will work wonders. As for goggles and contacts go to http://www.sportrx.com to get some prescription sunglasses or goggles. With the windshield all I need is my sunglasses.

I love the one I got, I look like I'm about to launch to orbit, or the late 60's either one is fine with me.
