Default N00b question about points

1977 xs750d

I ordered some points through eBay, advertised as left side points. When I pull off my stator cover, they aren't the same as the ones I have in there. I look back on eBay and find that the right side points are the ones that match what I am seeing.

Questions:

1) What is the difference between the 2
2) Where are the left side points located, and what function do they play? I can't find them in the repair manual.

You can't have a Real Country unless you have a BEER and an airline - it helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least you need a BEER.

It looks like the difference is in the way they are built to fit the back plate. The left side points help provide the ignition for the left cylinder.
You should probably change points as pairs. New sets shouild be cleaned with contact cleaner to remove oil residue, etc. The surfaces need to be clean.
In the picture #2 is left side and #3 right side points.

All of my points on the bike are the same, see attached. The one of the left is the "left" point. The one on the right is identical to the other 2 still on the bike. Thoughts?
