Default Front fender removal

My front fender is cracked so I am going to get another one. I was wondering if it was an easy removal/installation that could be done without any special tools or if I should take it to a garage.

Pull your brakes, pull your front wheel, remove fender, reassemble in reverse order. Just don't let anyone grab your front brake lever while the caliper(s) off.

Is the wheel removal hard to do because it seems like there would be some alignment issues when putting it back on.

some bikes there is enough room to remove fender with tyre still on. Most bikes an open end wrench will be all you need to remove the fender. look at your bike and see if there is room.

look in manual for any special requirements for reinstalling front wheel.

I know some bikes like older yammaha 650,s the wheel nut had to be torqued after.

First off....what bike are we talking about, this is going to make a HUGE difference.

I own 6 bikes......none of them require removing the front wheel to take the front fender off. Its as simple as using a wrench, removing 4 bolts and fender is off.

Some bikes have the fender bolts on the inside of the forks and require that the front wheel be removed. (The bolts are just too long and the tire/rim gets in the way)

It's not terribly difficult to remove the front wheel on most bikes. Just take your time in making sure everything is lined up correctly when replacing the wheel.

A shop manual for the bike would be a great asset in explaining the proper procedure for that model.

Edit: I doubt you would need any special tools.

No. Just removing the wheel and fender won't change any alignment. That being said if you loosen up everything in the front end (triple tree, fender, fork clamps) you may want to make sure the forks are still parallel. We won't get into this being it's no aplicable right now.

You may be able to get the fender off without taking the wheel off like wawadave and aaronkelly said, check that first.

Looks like you just need a a way to get the front wheel off the rground, couple metric wrenches and pull a cotter pin to get yours off (I looke dup what the axle looked like). Just keep track of the spacer and speedo drive.

When I picked up my bike earlier this week the previous owner handed me the fender. I reinstalled it today. 4 bolts and lock washers, no tire or brake removal. Tool required: 12mm ratcheting wrench.

From what I can see on bikebandit.com it looks like 3 bolts and that it, unless you have an 08 ninja, shouldn't have to remove the brakes or front wheel

There are 2 plastic clamps that hols the brake cable to the fender. Is there anyway to take those off without destroying them or will I have to buy new ones because they are like 10 dollars a piece.

I'd need to see a picture to give better info. You should be able to carefully remove the cables without damaging anything, unless the plastic has become brittle.

The only way to actually take the cables off the clamp is to disconnect the cables and pull them through. They are closed circular clamps that dont open.

could you just unscrew the clamp from where it attaches to the fender?
