Hi, I have a 81 Yamaha seca 750 and I have a problem with the gear shifter. The gear shifter would not return to its normal position and when you shift down it stays down and when you shift up it stays up it doesn't spring back.
The bike is almost ready and thanks to Dan631 who help me with the coil plugs and Dennis of course. I open up the carb and clean a lot of dirt out clear all holes put new carb intake boots and now the bike start up like new. |

I don't think my gear shifter pops back up after shifting either? (not sure). But if it's supposed to be maybe there is a spring that needs replacing behind the shifter to pull it back up?

Yep, not following you there. When you put the shifter in a position it is supposed to stay there. Just like when you put your car in “D”...it stays there until you move it.

When you shift your bike the drum is supposed to turn and stay in position but the actuall lever is supposed to spring back into a neutral position. You've probably got a busted spring. In this diagram it's number 6. They call it a torsion spring. It's what springs the lever back into place after you shift.
