those are basically race bikes with blinkers. they're great bikes, but neither is a good first bike. i have a friend serving in the marines in india, who is letting me ride his r6 just to keep it ridden. i just got my license a month ago, and the MSF course the weekend before was my first time on any kind of 2 wheeled motorized contraption.
so, from someone who is/has been learning on an r6, don't get either for a first bike. it's a good way to kill yourself. nearly everyone here will tell you the same thing however, if you do decide to go ahead and get a supersport, i would strongly suggest taking the MSF course and taking it real slow until you get more comfortable with the power you'll have with an r6 or similar. it's a lot of power, and a screw up can end up a lot worse because of it.
