I use an aerostich roadcrafter most of the time, with the extra back pad, sometimes leathers in the winter. In the summer, maybe kevlar jeans and a mesh jacket with padding. Leathers sometimes when it's not too hot. The Stich is the most versatile bikewear I ever had, but the bulk of it makes hanging off, something I learned at a Lee Parks course, very awkward as it does restrict movement in the butt area. Otherwise, the things keeps me cool in summer, warm in winter with some layering, and dry when it rains, and I daresay would reduce road rash a lot if I went down. I've been comfortable in it from 35 degrees all the way up to 118. Amazing gear, except for the flexibility restrictions, which is probably something you get with oversuits. Find myself jumping into it for short trips and also for those long road trips, where the versatility means you don't have to pack raingear or stop to put it on when it starts to rain. I like to ride south in the winter and it is good both for breaking out of the cold zone and riding in the sun, where you'd normally have to find space in the bags for gear for two climates.

Full Face Helmet: HJC FS-15 (regular, not carbon -- I'm not made of money!)
Jacket (textile): A* T-Dyno
Pants (textile): A* Street Cargo
(Both the pants and the jacket have a removable thermal liner - very nice for chilly fall mornings!)
Boots: A* S-MX 5
Gloves: A* GP Pro
I also have a spine protector too, but Thanksgiving and Christmas have conspired against me and I don't fit in the jacket with that in there any more .

Imagine (that's all you can do -- I need more posts!) that on a 125 scooter . The looks I get from other motorists make wearing the gear worth it, never mind that it could save my skin!

Default gear?

It depends on many things. Temp, weather, how fast I'll be going, how far and what type of rodes I'll be on.

you missed boots

decent boots with ankle protection are imo very important.
a snapped ankle can cripple you for life, or mean a lot of unwanted surgery.

get some. wear them.

I wear a full face helmet, ballistic mesh jacket, full length boots, and gloves. Pants are debatable. If it is cold then I wear them, otherwise I don't.

Full face helmet, glasses, armored textile jacket, armored gloves, kevlar jeans,
heavy dual sport type boots.

Also in a pocket is a St. Christopher's medal, a crucifix, and a Joie Chitwood lucky coin. I'm not sure what protects me most, the apparel or my lucky charms.

ttp, I think that I might be able to answer.
The laces tend to fly around and end up in the chain!
If you do wear laces, at least tuck them into the tongue of the boots or
into the criss-crossed laces.
The idea is to shorten them up so as not to pull your leg into the chain.

I appreciate the insight. The laces in the chain crisis has never happened to me, I'm happy to say. And to think when I started motorcycling I wore a tank top shirts, shorts and sandals!

Another consideration that others on this forum have mentioned is that the
loop could get caught in the shifter when exiting the bike and pulling it over.

I've ridden with lacers, pull-ons, and the cam locking off-road type boots. All these potential problems with boot laces have never really occured to me I guess. Leather laces, double wrapped around the top of my boots and a square knot always kept me outta' trouble.

I wear:

FF Helmet (pricey-Shoei RF-1000) Black and white caster model

Leather Gloves

Leather Combat boots or waterproof Redwing work boots

Armored jacket (shoulder, elbow)

If I'm on base, I wear a hi-viz green vest over the jacket

Polycarbonate glasses, clear or dark... I like to ride with my visor up sometimes.

What I need to wear: I need to wear some type of riding pants. I'd like to wear leather. I do have leather overpants, but I really bought them for cooler weather.

I wear the same riding pants year 'round.
Hot or cold, makes no difference in comfort.

I know many ride for years with laced running shoes, army lugs or biker boots but I like playin' it safe.

Good insight on reasons not to wear laced boots.

These days I wear the same boots on the road that I wear whilst off roading. Sidi Adventure's. They're lighter than most motocross types, but still very robust and waterproof. My Kevlar jeans fit over 'em with plenty of room. There's enough flex in them that shifting and braking don't present a problem. They have a wedge type sole which in both off and on road venues, don't have a heel to hang up on stationary objects. I wouldn't want to hike miles wearing them, but short walks are OK.

Might be a bit of overkill on the road, but they give my feet and ankles a whole lot of protection. In fact one of these days I'm going to look into a pair of Alpinestars Scout boots which are pretty much the same thing.

I wear laced boots but I just tuck the laces into the boot and I've never had a problem.

One thing I DO have a problem with however is cuffed pant legs! I have a pair of work slacks that are cuffed at the bottom, and often times when I go to take off from a stop the cuff gets caught on the peg and I can't bring my foot up. Annoying. So obviously I avoid wearing those pants when I ride.

I misspoke myself. I wear Sidi Discovery Rain boots.

For years and years I wore a pair of Corcoran jump boots from the Army. Like Porange, I tucked the laces in the top and never had a problem.

Does nobody wear earplugs or has nobody mentioned them?

I went probably the first 150 miles without them, and grabbed em one day at CVS. Sometimes I forget to put them in and I really can't stand it. If I'm going on the highway I always stop somewhere. And that's with an RF-1100, a "quiet" helmet.

I can still hear cars about to pass me, and it's protecting the lifespan of my ears bigtime.

Not at all a bad idea.
I don't have "LOUD PIPES that don't save ears", though.
Most of those riders are probably closer to DEAF than they know just yet.

Yeah I bought some foamy ear things and tried them out on a few highway trips.. I didn't like how it dampened my engine noise so much on regular street speeds. I'm used to listening to it, so the experience of quietness was sort of unnerving.
