Default Thoughts on V-Star 250?

Hey guys, I just passed my MSF course in NJ this weekend and I am very excited about it. I'm so glad I took it because it really puts things into perspective as far as safety and skill go.

I want a bike that gets great gas mileage since I commute to college 45 minutes each way 4 days a week. This is my primary concern. A lot of power, size and ego are not a concern to me, I would just like something to get me more comfortable with riding while keeping my wallet heavy. Also, I am a small/average sized guy at 5'8" and 165 lbs.

So who has experience with one of these? Are they a good choice for a commuter bike? What is the maximum reasonable speed you can take this bike to before the vibrations get too bad or rpms get too high? (The roads I would be driving on are between 50-60mph. I probably would see some (but minimal) highway at 65mph+, but even then I have heard of people getting sprocket upgrades to get the RPMs down in 5th gear and get even better mileage.

They are an excellent commuter bike. I just rode mine from VA to PA and back. I took all highway including I95. Stayed at 65-70 mph no problem. I get little vibration.

Good to hear. What kind of fuel mileage are you seeing on the bike?

I went up to north Jersey today to go to a Yamaha dealer (about an hour away) because I have a $500 off coupon for them that was included in my MSF Completion Pack, only to pull on a locked door handle and find out they are closed Mondays. I was so pissed at myself, and no other closer Yamaha dealers have them on the floor right now.

I am averaging 81 mpg. That is riding 55-60mph at most. When I took this trip with a heavy backpack and going 65-75 mph, I was getting in the 70's.

Awesome, I'm waiting on one of two dealers to get back to me to see if one of them has one of these in stock. I would love to pick one up this week.
