Default 1,000 Mile Mark

This mornings ride to work logged me 1,000 miles. 1,000 and change now in about 2 months. Far from old salty dog, but I feel it's a milestone. I ride to work and don't do joy rides, aside from it being a joy just to ride.

This first thousand miles has been rather uneventful. No drops. No crashes. I did lock up the rear wheel and go a little snakey once stopping for a light going downhill. And there was the mattress almost incident. I saw the pick-up with unsecured mattresses in the bed and got around him before the mattresses came flying out. Crash avoidance doesn't get any better than that.

I'm much much better at letting out the clutch and getting my feet up leaving a stop light and have come to use my heel shift a lot for going up in gears. 70 mph does not make my butt-hole eat the seat anymore. I can do 50 one handed, not that it's a good idea, just that I can. Keeping an upright posture while pressing to turn really is the way to do it. The bike makes much cleaner turns that way.

I still need to work on down shifting and engine braking. I go up gears fine. Coming down I'm not as smooth and if I were I could be using my engine to brake more than I do. It hasn't rained since I've had the bike, so I still need to ride in the rain.

All in all, I am a lot more comfortable without being complacent. Being more comfortable means being able to better focus on more around me. It's a good thing. The C50 is the right size for my first bike. After taking The Course, of course.

Congratulations and yes, it is a milestone. Two months without incident and 4 to go before you graduate out of the six month club. Keep it up and here's to your continued success.

Thumbs up Me Too!!!

Well crap, you beat me to it Ramazith, Congratulations! I too just hit the 1,000 mark today (I swear I meant to post about it earlier when I was online, I just forgot) I have only had one drop (I posted about that one) and no crashes (thankfully) I have had a couple of close (for me) calls, but nothing serious. I have been riding my '08 C50 for 3 weeks and 4 days, and I am loving it all.

oh I intend to Hogrider LOL there has not been a day yet since I bought the bike that I was not out for a ride, I have been in the rain (that was a fun afternoon, and a bit scary for me) days so hot I thought the tires were gonna melt, and nice beautiful days where everything was perfect (I prefer those LOL)

oh shut up j/k Congratulations Simon.

Unfortunately for me I have to go back to work in a week or so and that will limit my time on the bike (sort of) I am hoping to do more (semi) long distance rides on the weekends. So far the longest I have ridden (in a day) is the first trip I took, 2 days after buying the bike, and that was only a 90 mile round trip, to the Lexington Battlefield here in Mo. I have been getting in a few 60 miles days putting around town doing nothing more than wasting gas though. I am waiting for next spring to take a camping trip, I want a little more seat time before taking such a trip, and I need some time to get a few more things for the bike (like a softer seat ) and a few other things.

I don't even know where I got the 2000 miles from.

My longest trip has been about 200 miles total in about 6 hours (stopping for lunch with the family for 2 hours in there).

My windshield comes in tomorrow. We'll see how it goes after that I guess. Might help with long distance rides and not being fatigued.
