was drivin to my friends house which is like a mile away. took a left turn onto a street. there sand all over the road. saw it last second. i was only going like 10-15 mph. the rear tire slid rite from me. i slid on the pavement for about 5-10 feet. jumped up in less than a second and picked up the bike (06 ninja 250). grrr. messed up my left fairing near the front. and the back kick stand a lil. then a little scratch on the handle bar, clutch handle and left mirror. GRRR. stupid me. should have went even slower. too bad didnt see it on time.
so here the deal. i got up. nothin bad happened to me. a bruised hip, bloody knee and a little scratch on the elbow. walk away from it pretty much. wanted to drive off but the bike wouldnt want to start. the started would try to start but the engine would not turn over. so i called a local towing company. the guy said it would be 100 bucks to tow it like 0.5 miles back to my house. i said no thanks and decided to push it home. after pushing it 100 feet i decided to start it again, but this time opened the throttle alot and the bike started. dont know why but i had no control over the throttle. i put it in first gear and the bike was at 5k rpm, and wouldnt respond to throttle at all. then i switched to 2nd, 3rd. still same 5k rpm. as soon as i pushin in the clutch, the engine would start picking up rpm really fast. so i got home by shifting up and down and using my break. when i had to stop i would just turn the engine off. so what is the problem? the throttle is just caught? how much do you guys think it will be to fix it? Check the throttle cable? Make sure it's not bound or pinched somewhere? Just a thought...

little update. the engine started after i opened up choke. thats why the bike was at 5k rpm. as soon as i realized that i ran outside and turned off choke. this time the bike started right off and i was able to roll it a little in first gear in my backyard. going to test it tomorrow and see how it rides. my bike has about 7700 miles on it so the 8k mile maintenance is gona be pretty soon. do oyu think they will let me do it right now instead of waitin till 8k?

Yeah, sand sucks. I did something very similar going through the traffic circle in the parking lot at work. I was on my BMW, which I'd only had for maybe a month, and spilled it on some sand at maybe 10 MPH or less. Scraped up the underside of the cylinder head, and that was about all. It also left a mark on the elbow armor on my jacket, I think I might've hurt my elbow if I hadn't been wearing it. Still, I was pretty PO'ed...I couldn't believe how the back end had slid out when I didn't even feel like I was leaned over. A guy came over to see if I was okay and to help me pick up the bike, and he said that he saw me go down, and he was surprised too. He said I was barely leaned over at all. Yep...sand sucks! Tim

yeah thats what happened to me. i was going really slow and then BAM. sliding on the pavement. a bunch of people came up to me right away. and no i do not have a maintanence plan but all kawasaki dealerships recoment getting special maintenance done at 600 (breakin), 2k, 5k, and 8k miles. it will cost me 250 bucks but they check everything on your bike. so im thinking because im paying the 250, they might just let me do it right now.

7700 is close enough. you can get service at any time you want, those numbers are the recommendations

ohh ok good. i just want to get everything checked out, just to make sure. plus im gona go to a local body shop so they can fix the plastic so it doesnt look bad. the back stand actually saved my exhaust. it grinded down a bit but pipes are still nice and shiny
. i mean you live and you learn. now i know what little sand can do. i think my pride got hurt more than my body and my bike combined.when i go to resell the bike do you guys think it will affect the price that much? theres no real damage to the bike. just the cosmetics which are easily fixable. i was going to sell it for 1500-1600 in the beginning of next year. maybe even in a month and a half before i go off to college |

I highly doubt a little cosmetic damage will affect the resale price of a Ninja 250R that much.

well the dealer sold a 05 for 2700 a month ago. a local on craiglist 05 went for 2 grand a month ago and i bought my 06 for 2 grand also. so i think it will be a safe bet giving it away for 1700 with some minor damage - plus with 250 dollar maintenance

what is the cost to you to winterize it? Will you need to pay exta to garage it, or extra insurance? I have to imagine the bike will go for a few hundred more in the spring, plus if we have a stretch of clear dry days in the winter, you could bundle up and go for a ride

I'd hold off on doing the maintenance if you're going to sell it, anyway. Especially if you're only going to sell it for $1700. I wouldn't bother taking it in to a body shop, either. I don't think that I saw a ninja 250 on craigslist for less than $2500 when I was looking for my bike. If you sell it for $1700 in the spring someone will snatch it up fast even if it does have some body damage and needs the maintenance.

Take care of yourself and be sure to see a doctor if things don't start feeling better soon. Watch out for that sand! It will steal your traction in a heartbeat.

Well, first of all, I'm very happy you were not seriously hurt! Sorry about the cosmetic damage. Plastic is a lot easier to replace than flesh and bone though!
Good luck with the sale. It shouldn't be hard at all with the market today! ![]() |

Glad to hear your ok, seriously do what Dodsfall said if that bump does not start to heal soon go to the doctor. I am glad the bike is not hurt outside of cosmetic damage. Be safe!

yeah my body is all sore but its not because of me falling but probly because I was at the gym working out for 2 hours prior to riding.
because of yesterday I might change my plans completely. I was going to sell it in the beginning of next year and get a 650r. but now im thinking of keeping it for another season, saving money for another year and get the 07 or 08 650r in a year or so. just want to have a lot more practice before I bump up to a bigger bike |

Ouch! Yeah sand sucks, too bad you learned it the hard way!
I didn't, but I've been on sand too many times (New England during and after winter time), so I know what it feels like. Everytime I see it on the road I do 5mph or less ![]()

Sorry to hear about your spill man, good to hear you're alright though. It sucks when the adrenaline wears off and you feel that pain a little more!

I've seen people doing it WHILE I was going by. I'd just slow down, swerve away from them and look at them, as in saying "wtf do you think you're doing?"

Bad air filter: .5 miles to the gas station for a jump because I used up most of the starter juice trying to start it. Vaporlock from low (but not empty) tank: 1 mile as the dump area I was in had literally zero gas stations. Wipeout: 3 miles to the nearest bike service center. In truthfulness I got lucky I was near one at all. |
