Hi everyone, I am just getting back into motorcycling after 38 years. I just signed up for a MSF class even though I have my MC license. I need some advise as to what motorcycle I should get. I have been looking at the Harley Davidson Ultra Classic Electra Glide. Since I have been out of Motorcycling for a long time, I was wondering if this is the right move. Could anyone please give their opinion. Thank you

Welcome to the forum Pointman!
38 years is quite a while, and you may be a bit rusty. I think the MSF class will let you know where your skill set is at currently. Once you take that course, you will probably have a better handle on deciding if you need to practice a bit on a lighter bike before buying the heavy one. The power of the Harley touring bike shouldn't be a problem since it's unlikely to accidently wheelie The weight will probably be the biggest concern.

After 38 years you are no doubt rusty and your timing will be off but taking the MSF class is an excellent way to start. I don't think the Ultra Classic is a bad move at all. I would however suggest you take the time and rent one for a day to get a feel for the bike and possibly an understanding of this is what you want for sure as opposed to buying the bike only to be disappointed later. I like renting bikes from time to time only to have fun with something new for a day.
Best of luck getting back into the world of two wheels. |

That's a good point. A bike rental runs about $100 a day, and while that might seem a bit steep, it's pretty cheap compaired to having to sell something later you regretted buying. So if you really aren't sure, it's probably the way to go.

Friend of mine is prolly close to your age and situation. He went out and got a used Suzi Boulevard 750 and rode it for about 6 months. Sold it for what his cost was
(I can't never do that!) and got his Harley first of this summer. Riding the dog snot out of it! ![]()
