Exclamation ***Official TEXAS Thread***

Hey guys, anyone in TEXAS check in here, and lets see if we cant get enough of us to rally together to get our own forum on MF.

I'm 24, I ride a 1995 Yamaha Virago 750, and I live in north Fort Worth. I don't have any rides or events planned, but I would like to hear if any of you guys do.

3 hours and 15 minutes at the Hurst DMV! It took me maybe 30 minutes to actually take (and pass!) the test and fill out the papers. The rest of the time was spent waiting. I was pacing around with that new song, 'Let's Start A Riot', playing in my head.

Now I ask you, as the test asked me, "If you do not control your drinking, you should"

A. Wait 1 hour per drink before riding
B. Drink coffee to stay alert
C. Ride slower
D. Dance and jump around to make the effects of alcohol wear off

The answer is A. But if I'm not controlling my drinking, how am I gonna be in control my drinking to wait an hour per drink? Is it OK to ride drunk if I've been in control of my drinking or is it only bad if I've been loosing control of the bottle and pouring beer on my feet?

The test is on a touch screen with a phone receiver to hear the questions and answers read to you. The questions and answers are also on the screen. I think it was 20 questions. It says you can check your score as you go, but that feature didn't work on mine. I had the reflective clothing question appear twice, just worded differently each time. Your score is given to you on screen at the end of the test. I got a paper license at the DMV and my picture taken for a new license that will come to by mail in 3 weeks. I did not have to take the riding test since I had my certificate from MSF MTC. Good thing too. By 9 am, they had stopped giving the riding tests.

Well, I'm off to go bike shopping.

Hey! Y'All.

I'm not from Texas, but my Dad lives there. Brackettville. about 35 miles east of DelRio, or, like, 3.5 hrs west of San Antonio, at a place called Ft.Clark Springs. Great Golf down there.

Default Austin Texas , every Sunday!

My two neighbors and I ride every Sunday. Ones got a Ducati Monster and the others on a Ninja. We mostly ride the hill country around lake Travis, but we are going to start makeing a Wimberly run aswell and we are open to any other suggestions.

I welcome all cruisers, sport bikes, motards, just NO MOPEDS LOL. So if you wanna ride then let me know. We all live in north Austin, but we can find a central meet up location.

It was a great ride. I didn't know this untill we got there, but the drag boat races in MarbleFalls was going on, so we stopped and watched for a little bit, then got back on the road.

Oh, and it was just my neighbor and I. (Tanto and the Loan Ranger) he was Tanto of course LOL

I had never taken Hamilton Pool Rd(962), and it was alright. about half of it had absolutly no traffic, and it was almost all straight, so I couldn't help but to open it up. The other half was a little twisty, but alot of traffic.

So far my favorite roads are Lime Creek and 1431, but I still have alot of exploreing to do.

be careful on 1431, you have to deal with the following law enforcement agencies, wilco, travis, state troopers, jonestown, and maybe leander/cedar park

Default DFW Texas Riders

Most of my riding is to and from work with the occasional errand. I don't do much joy riding, save for riding being a joy of its own and have never done a group ride. We tried to get one going at work but schedule conflicts nixed that idea.

Not saying that I want to start a thing. Just that if there are a bunch of us rolling around here chances are we might cross paths anyway, so, I mean, maybe we could do that on purpose or something.

Just wondering how many DFW Texas riders we have here. Texas seems to have a large presence on the internet and it sure does have a lot of motorcycles.

unfortunately for me i couldn't afford a bike when i was there. but i would imagine that the ride out to granbury would be pretty sweet. early on a sunday so traffic was at a minimum. and heading out of town on 30w is good and flat. big sky too. when i was there i just frequented all the bike shops on 183 and drooled.

What? You mean people move away from Texas? I'm one of those who isn't from Texas but got here as soon as I could.

Hi, sirgilbert357.

Take Hwy 377, Denton Hwy, north out of Keller in Tarrant county into Denton county. You'll come to FM 1171, Cross Timbers Rd. Go east. It's a little hilly and a little twisty. Fairly rural too. The pavement isn't all the best, but not real bad either. I rode it from the highway to a little ways into Flower Mound.

Looks like Denton Hwy and several of the FM roads along it would be nice rides. Probably more rural going west than east since east is towards Dallas.

I hear ya on the cold. In the high 20s the past few mornings. The Tips of my fingers get too cold to ride across the DFW in that.

Today though, I'm waiting for the tailor to call so I have an excuse to run errands.

I hate living in Texas. Blasphemy I know! But my husband has atrocious allergies here, and neither of us handle the heat very well. We do excellently well in cooler weather and we both love snow. So it's a good move for us.

I will miss a couple things about Texas though. I'll miss my family...got a lot of em here. I'll miss year-round riding. And I'll miss year-round vegetable gardening. Still, the plusses to moving north for us outweigh the minuses.

In the DFW area, I ride with a few riding groups organized at Meetup dot com. Search for North Texas Riders or Outsiders... to mention a few. Seem there's a group ride scheduled most weekends.

Maybe I'm a little late checking in, kind of new to the forum.

I'm in Abilene, couple hours west of DFW. Always ready to ride! We have a group of about 20 of us here that try to meet up every saturday, on any given saturday we have about 6 show up and ride all over west Texas. Sorry not too many of us are native Texans! We are all military.

Maybe next spring/summer I could get a group of us to head over your way.

Any of you DFWs ride in the soup this morning? That wasn't fog. It was mist. Drizzle even. I knew the roads were slick and tried to be easy. Grabbed too much brake too fast anyway and tried to make the letter L right through an intersection. Thankfully it was darkthirty and no one else was out. The trick to not falling seemed to be keeping the front straight and letting off the back brake while keeping the clutch pulled in.

Looks like Sunday and Monday are cage days. COLD

I live in Farmers Branch and just got back on a bike after 25-30 years. I have a 2005 V-Star 1100 Classic and think I may ride it today also. The temp is supposed to be in the 70's today.

Since the car is already filthy from driving it during our 'winter blast', I went ahead and drove it today as well on these nasty wet roads. But since it's supposed to be so warm, I may get Virago out of the garage when I get home from work (noon) and stretch her legs if the roads have dried by then.
